This happened early last year. This was the first iPod I broke. I dropped it on the floor. Straight after doing that I noticed that all my music sounded completely and utterly different.
So I made the mistake of taking it to the shop I bought it from. Mostly to see what was wrong with it and if it was fixable, I didn't care if they fixed it.

i'm surprised and kinda horrified by this. this is not the policy of dick smith (at least not in australia!) my bf who works there has said, though, that all they do anyway is send things onto the local certified repair centre (usually a local apple store) so it may be worth skipping the middleman if you're in this situation again.

But if you're not, then why didn't you just tell them (if you were pretty sure the headphone jack was broken, as you repeatedly said) that you thought the headphone jack was broken and if they could fix it and how much it would cost?

It sounds like to me that the OP did try to convince the workers that it was broken, but the workers wouldn't listen and since they didn't think it was broken, they wouldn't even try to fix it.

I did mention to them something along those lines, I even repeated many times in my OP that I had told them the sound was fail. They still denied there was anything wrong with it and even said there was 'nothing wrong' with the sound.

Agree with the two above.

If I know my headlight is out, I don't keep taking it somewhere until they figure out my headlight it out. I say Hey my headlight is out, how much is it to fix/replace it.

Why continue going back to the same place if they aren't helping you. Go somewhere else? That's what I would have done.
