That is terrible. I am sorry for your friends loss.

She should call corporate and see if anything can be done, I am sure if she takes it further up the chain of command they will fix it for her.

+1. It is *possible* that no one in-store even has the ability to give back cash. Like, there may not be an option anywhere in their computer system.

Not that this would make it any less terrible and traumatic for your friends, and it really fucking sucks that they have to go through this on top of losing their baby. :(

I've never heard of a retail establishment that is completely unable to do refunds.

That's so sad to hear. T_T

Perhaps if they continue to refuse to allows refunds, the baby items could be donated to the Salvation Army.

I'd pick a better charity than Salvation Army, at least one that doesn't discriminate in both it's hiring and sometimes where they can in their assistance of the needy.

Yeah I was just thinking of any charity, it was the first one that came to mind. Donation to a woman's shelter would be better then.

Or maybe a domestic violence shelter.

Ugh. This whole damn thing is making me feel sick.

My sister-in-law had a similar experience this summer when she lost her son at 28 weeks. :( Babies R Us was definitely not understanding of anything going on. As a result, I have saved every receipt for everything I've purchased throughout my pregnancy - big or small - "just in case."

They should change their name to Assholes R Us.

After reading this post I am ashamed to have registered there. My babyshower probably got them a couple grand and it's making me sick.

You didn't know. Be ashamed of them, not yourself.

Don't be ashamed! You had no idea about this and that they are unfeeling jerks.

Oh, gods. I can generally understand a strict return policy, but that is horrible service and they should be ashamed of themselves. I guess just a little bit of compassion is too much to ask of these people.

My condolences to the parents. I just want to cry for them right now.

That is so horrible what your friend is going through, they are in my thoughts.
I know this sounds a bit.. silly, but there are websites like: http://www.plasticjungle.com/pjweb/ that will buy gift cards for just a bit less then the cards value. Maybe that can help?
