Those dolls are ridiculously cute, despite whatever connotations might be attached to it.

That is one of the most twisted attempts to avoid assigning blame for racism I've ever come across. The artists and creators "found" non-racist ways to depict minorities? Tell me, in your mind, was racism a natural condition just waiting for white artists and creators to discover a new magic anti-racism type of art? You don't think just maybe it's more likely these white creative types didn't casually perpetuate the racist imagery until minorities got enough respect to demand they stop?

No. In my mind (as you so nicely put it) racisim was so prevalant in society people didnt even realize how racist they were.

As race relations got better, and people learned how to live with each other, things changed. Uses to be that the 'golly' stereotype could be found everywhere, in every medium.

Now its something we all look on with disdain/disgust.

Look at an old betty boop cartoon, then look at Disney's 'Princess and the Frog' Times changed, attitudes changed, artists found (should I have said learned to avoid offending you?) new ways to depict people of color that werent offensive.

EDIT: Why did things change? Because brave people of all races insisted on change.

lol I look at Disney's "Princess and the Frog" and I still see all of Disney's old, tired, racist, classist attitudes come shining through with vigor. Keeping the sterotypes alive! *sighs* :-/

Oh I know its not all sunshine and roses, but things have changed for the better, and I believe they will continue to do so. We all just have to keep working at it.

Don't forget The Green Mile- big scary ~negro~ who's really a bit of a simpleton and has mystical, magical powers.
I like Stephen King but that movie made me uncomfortable with all the "yessir, nossir" stuff (although I did cry at the end because I am a sook).

Loved Green Mile, felt ooky about the stereotype. It's one of the major examples...but I sadly think more people have seen the abomination of "The Bucket List" then "Green Mile." :(
