How can you forget to tip?

Man, I wouldn't want to wait on you, either. I wouldn't go back there to dine-in, if I were you. Two times in a row? Yeah, you're never getting good service there ever again. From now on you're 'that bitch who doesn't tip'. The fact that all you could muster was a 'sorry dude' instead of a few dollars to pay him what you owe makes it even worse.

You would still tip somebody who came out SCREAMING at you?

Yeah. I'd be horribly embarrassed at forgetting to tip, but someone who comes screaming after me out to the car? Not kosher.

I once forgot and realized I had forgotten. I went back the next day, got the same waiter and tipped him before the meal for the tip I forgot the day before.

I would never forget to tip someone, so that would never happen. The attitude of 'oops, I forgot' is a shitty shitty one to have and implies that the OP might often forget to tip.

I suppose I wouldn't tip out someone who came outside to scream at me, but like I said... I don't forget to tip.

Do you... not understand how the service industry works in the US? Waiters get taxed based on the food they sell, regardless of whether or not they get tipped.

Unfortunately, we don't have much choice.

My husband and his coworkers once ate at a restaurant and got really crappy service. They decided not to leave a tip, and the server came after them. He yelled, "You forgot to pay for the service!" One of the coworkers replied, "You forgot to give the service!"

Heh--I like that one. Bleh--in the US, the whole tips thing is a lose-lose situation, really. Why in the blazes *don't* they just pay waitstaff minimum wage like everybody else and have tips be bonuses for extra good service? Would save a lot of wank all around. :-/

Or heck, forget minimum wage and go for a living wage.

I like how the OP "forgets" to pay a hard worker for their time and good service, the general sentiment is "oh well things happen, no big deal!" but if a server forgets to bring your side of Mayo or that 5th refill on your coke, its OMGworstserviceEVAR!
I would like to know what the first server did that was so terrible. OP sounds like a real treat to wait on.

I like how everyone's having a good sneer at people who 'forget' to tip because you couldn't ever REALLY forget. Also bonus points for the attitude that these are obviously EBs who would have withheld the tip for 'forgetting to bring your side of mayo' just because... what, your internet psychic is on?

Agreed. I think the OP should be given some slack cause people do forget.

And I don't in general get pissy at a waitress for forgetting one thing. Unless she's forgotten a whole ton of other things or when you point it out she forgets again or you never see what you asked for.

...It's the waiter's job to provide you with the things you ask for, within reason of course.
