Irritation and Question for y'all.

I'm quite mad at this credit card company. Unfortunately I didn't catch the name of the place while I was on the phone with her. She was extremely rude to me and I do not appreciate that, especially while I'm at work. Here's the sitch ( Read more... )

lol, the fact that she gave out information about the debt is wicked illegal. I have a hard time believing that was a legit call.

Well that's pretty creepy. They knew the store manager's name and the girl they were looking for's name as well.

The store manager said I should stop answering the phone with my name, which is something I'm considering, but it's so ingrained.

A few years ago the company that handles Cato's store credit card called my mother and told her how much I owed, how far behind I was and how long it had been since my last payment. When I called to raise a fuss about it they told me "She must had lied and pretended she was you"

unfortunately for customers of credit card companies, they DO in fact give out this info - I have answered several calls from my boyfriend's credit card company, and they've given me all sorts of info they don't have permission (from him) to share with me. we've started documenting every thing from all credit card calls now, as they will either hang up immediately if i answer, divulge supposedly confidential info to anybody who asks, call numerous times a day (up to 11pm some nights) if he is more than a day late with the payment.

No, I think if it makes you uncomfortable to give out that information, then don't.

But that's so annoying. One of my coworkers had a collection agency after her and it was such a pain for anyone else who answered the phone. And while not anyone's fault directly, it's totally inappropriate to be dealing with that kind of stuff at work, when you know, you should be working.

I know the person at the collections agency has to do whatever they can to get the money and I know (at least in my case) my coworker didn't tell the collections agency where she worked, but it's such a pain for anyone else to have to deal with too.

You are allowed to request (in writing) that they not contact you at work, or any of your family members, and they have to adhere to that according to Federal Law.

totally irrelevant, but does the Amanda they were looking for actually even work there?

Yes. I started at the store two days ago, so I've never met the woman, but she is on the schedule.

Oh man, I love your icon.

I probably won't mention it to her unless it happens again. I'm only there temporarily (ten weeks).

When I got my cell number four years ago, apparently a woman named Deborah was giving it out to all her creditors as her number. I literally got a call a day every week at one point, and as I was working full time and not able to answer it, I'd have to call back, jump through hoops to try and find the person who called me, and then explain that she was a fucking asshole and for them to take me off their list and punch her in the face. It was banks, car loan companies, a mortgage broker, and all of them were located in like, Oregon. My number is clearly a PA number.

You do not have to answer those questions, and every job I've had hasn't allowed people to call and check up for collection at the job anyway. I have only worked at restaurants, but if anyone calls and says they're with so-and-so company and calling about whoever, the managers explain they will not give any information, nor will that person be taking the call unless they want to.

That's good to know! Thanks! I abjectly refused to give my credit cards my work phone for that reason (I work in a store), but I will see what our policies are on that sort of thing.

My cell number is a New Mexico number and I live in Arizona. The cell phone numbers generally show where someone lives, but not always.

No, I realize that. But the fact that this woman gave out a PA number for over two years to only California businesses/banks etc. drove me insane. Obviously by that point she should be switching everything over. I was living in MD with a PA number, but I was also a student.
