Irritation and Question for y'all.

I'm quite mad at this credit card company. Unfortunately I didn't catch the name of the place while I was on the phone with her. She was extremely rude to me and I do not appreciate that, especially while I'm at work. Here's the sitch ( Read more... )

They should be verifying your details before claiming you owe them money as well, because that's a privacy breach. If you know the Amanda they were after, maybe let her know some collection agency spoke to you about her and started giving you information about her debts. Maybe she can get them in trouble? Whenever my bank calls me, they always get me to verify my full name, birthday and address before proceeding with the reason of the call :/

I'd never give out my last name to anyone in a customer service setting like that though. We had a local election here a little while ago, and when I went to vote, I noticed I was the only one on the electoral roll with my name, so it'd be easy for someone to find my address etc. if they knew my full name and the area I lived in which is kind of creepy. Voting is compulsory here, so everyone in the area would have been listed. (I'm not listed in the phone book because everything is under my boyfriend's name, so I'm anonymous that way anyway).

Yeah, this woman didn't even give me the normal "this is an attempt to collect a debt and any information blah de blah" speech.

I haven't met the other woman yet, since I just started there two days ago (transferred from a different store).

It's a shame you didn't catch the names so you could accuse them of privacy breach hehe. I'm guessing maybe she skipped the rest of the spiel since you said you were Amanda when you answered and she just assumed it was who she was looking for :/

Because there is only one person in the world with the name Amanda, of course.

I've had collections calls for two of my employees. I told each of the callers that they were not authorized to call that number anymore. This is a place of business and they are not allowed to handle personal matters while on my clock. I told them that if they called again, I would file a complaint with the Attorney General's office.

I don't get those calls for those employees anymore.

I do not give out my work numbers to my credit card companies. I do not want them calling my work because they cannot get ahold of me via the number I provide them. Generally, if I do not answer the phone they call, it is because I am at work. And I feel I should not deal with things like that at work.

I've found that asking for their full name and address so you can send them a cease and desist letter gets the number off the lists a little faster. I'm not sure that will work for the companies that you're dealing with, but it has been effective for me. By asking for the address, I think it makes me look a little more serious about following through and making the formal removal request complete, because I've heard it's supposed to be done in writing.

Not to mention that if it HAD been the correct Amanda and she was really lying to get out of the call, she would probably have just MADE UP a different last name instead of refusing to answer.
