Well, the suck is with your company, not the insurance company, for failing to inform you of the change, not getting the information in on time, and, if it turns out to be correct, lying about you having the same coverage.
I agree that a portion of the suck is with the employer...not informing us of an upcoming change. However, the insurance company had our info, they were the ones not putting us in the system and then putting us in under the wrong group number. When I called to check on our coverage they had our information from the employer.
I'm just glad I'm not the only one seeing total suckage. LOL ;)
Having been the benefits administrator at a couple companies, I can tell you, this is the employer's suck. They are the ones who enroll you, assign you to the group and it sounds like they totally messed up. When they enroll you, it comes up with a verification to make sure all the info is correct. Lazy benefits admins drive me nutty. SOrry it was such a pita.
Actually $70 for 3 months of Advair is an excellent price. I pay $58 a month for mine. I definitely would check with HR as to exactly what your co-pays should be though.
Also, sign up at this site and you will get coupons about 3-4 times a year. The last one I got was for $25 off. I am not sure how it would work with mail order but it can't hurt to check it out.
I'm not disputing that $70 for 3 is a bad deal..it's an excellent deal since they retail for over $600. I'm upset that the premiums we pay offered 3 for $30 until the big fiasco in December and I mailed the script before Thanksgiving and they miraculously got it on 12/1 when our coverage changed on 11/30 at midnight. We went from Anthem to Unicare which are both owned by Blue Cross Blue Shield...one would think that a change of that nature would have gone off seamlessly. LOL
Thanks for the coupon site. It just might come in handy!! :)
Ugh. Do NOT get me started on insurance companies and asthma medications.
My son's doctor prescribed him pulmicort for his nebulizer. When I went to get it filled, our portion of the medication would have been $349. OUR PORTION. Needless to say, my son did not get his pulmicort, as I can't afford that. We toodled back to the doctor to see what they could do for something less expensive, and gave us a script for Flovent. Copayment on that was just over $100.
Good thing my son's asthma isn't bad. I'd be in the poorhouse.
Maybe we can get some reasonably priced meds soon. It's getting outrageous. It's gonna be worse now that we can't get the albuterol inhalers because of the CFC's in them. Proventil is quite a bit more expensive than the albuterol was.
It's the same with neurological meds. I'm bipolar, and when I had to pay out of pocket for medicine it was insane. And of course I had to take my medicine to be able to function at a job to make money to pay for the medicine to be able to function at a job... Didn't help that the stuff that works for me tends to be only the newest and therefore most expensive medicines. Sounds like the asthma meds are worse, though. I'm glad I only have to refill my Albuterol every year or so when it expires. I have athletically induced asthma, so I don't need it very often.
Although I have to say, it sucks hard that it's so expensive, but the CFC free stuff tastes so much better than the old generic.
My son uses a ProAir inhaler for his albuterol, which has no CFC's and is reasonably priced. Our portion was around $20. Drugstore.com lists it for around $40/inhaler.
