I completely agree that this is bull. I'll point out a similar story my coworker and I had the other day. It actually involves being gay, but that's a coincidence, heh. My coworker was basically saying that he was fine with gay people as long as they don't try to hit on him. I turned to him and said, "Yeah well, I'm sure a lot of women wish most guys wouldn't hit on THEM, but you think that's okay to do just because of our gender?"

Yeah!

I don't know where that idea that some women have that all guys like to be hit on repetedly comes from but it,s pretty stupid!

Even if I was straight , someone whoring themselves out shamelessly in a place as inapropriate as a gym would turn me off completely.

Oh, gee, perhaps from the MILLIONS OF MEN who love perpetuating the notion that men think exclusively with their cocks?

Do you live on planet Earth at all?

I think you should clarify if he's chauvanist or something of the sort. Just because he complains about being hit on by gay guys and doesn't say something about women being hit on, that doesn't mean he approves of the latter.

It may be because I've seen similar types of situations go HORRIBLY WRONG, but this fills me with RAGE.

Just because I am female does not mean I think men should have to put up with women behaving badly any more than the reverse.

Yep, I completely agree!

If I want to stare/pick-up guys I'd take it somewhere else (helping out at an animal shelter or volunteering at a homeless shelter...etc) instead of the gym. These women must be VERY desperate to be attempting to pick guys up at the gym. I mean you might as well go to a bar dressed really slutty screaming "OH MAN AM I DRUNK!!!".

Maybe you can find a bi or lesbian friend to hit on them? It might discourage them from doing what they have been.

I agree , I don,t see how the gym can seem like a logical place to hit on people! o.o

I mean , you don't exactly look your best while you're sweating profusely!

The gym I was a member of had a female-only area which didn't have all the same equipment or as much equipment as the main floor, just stuff that had been requested. There were only 3 elliptical machines, which were always occupied when I went in there so I had to go back to the main floor anyway.

Also if this is a second floor, do they have an elevator? There could be concerns about accessibility.

Well it can't be about accessibility.

When I say secnd floor it's actually second floor of the gym .. which is 3rd floor of the actual building.

And there's only stairs to get to the actual gym lobby .. so it's not an issue with accessibility .. And the gym's second floor can be reached by the side stairwell.

So there,s not a real excuse to explain that situation.

Just because some women are acting like that doesn't mean they all are. Most gyms include an area like that because there are plenty of women who are uncomfortable being seen working out, though those areas often don't include as much equiptment and tend to focus on 'class' situations with an instuctor giving aide taking up most the space.

Aka, And obviously the answer was no because some women were uncomfortable that guys were looking at themselves.
Well that's the bullshit reason they gave us anyhow.

Is in no way a 'bullshit reason'.

As for the women who are "pretend using machines to show off their curves", guess what? They paid to be there too, so unless they're doing anything directly to you there is literally nothing to bitch about(nor anything the employees can be expected to do). If they really have so few machines that you can't work out due to this apparent swarm of 'whoring' women then you seriously need to move on.

If they're so disturbed by other people seeing them work out, why do they even go to a gym?

I don't care what reasons you throw out; special floors for women is sexist. Giving them their own gym AND letting them use the main gym just adds insult to injury.

But it's not like all women are a monolith; my guess is that most women are fine working out in the main gym but there are some who would prefer to only work out with other women. Now, maybe there should also be a space just for men to work out, but maybe there wasn't as much demand for that.

Pretty much. If the men raised an issue about it I'm sure the gym would comply, though as is just complaining over a policy in place to make the other customers more comfortable does nothing.

That is waaaaaaay wrong. They get their own floor AND they get to gum up your machines? I'd be raising hell.
