Wow. When I called them, the person I spoke to was totally professional and took all my information, then gave me the web URL to get the claim packet.
My vet bill was closer to $800 for my puppy, who I'd only had for a little more than a month. Unfortunately, because ONE test was slightly elevated for leptospirosis, the fact that I don't have any of the cans or food any longer, etc... I decided not to try and make a claim that would surely be turned down. Even though my pet had every symptom that was caused by the tainted food.
NINE? Holy shit, that's my entire cat!!! (Though he's a small-boned shorthair mix. My other cat was a Maine Coon and she weighed 17 before she got diabetes.) Glad to hear he's ok, but damn, that's frightening.
Haha! Well granted he was a bit of a fatty before and could have stood to lose some weight (just not that much or in that way!). He was 16.2lbs before, he is now 7.4lbs.
Fuck keeping the original can, you know what you do??
You go back to your vet and have them itemize your cats symptoms on letterhead and have them state in their professional opinion that the cat was poisoned. I'd like to see them say that's not enough.
They are going to do EVERYTHING they can to not pay people money. Imagine 2600 pets x $700+ per pet?? = A LOT OF FREAKIN MONEY.
Man this makes me so mad. I freaked when I heard about the recall, my mother in law threw out every package of food she had for my cats at her house, she didn't care about the dates and it's a good thing considering they KEEP recalling.
my dog ate wet food because his previous owners sucked and now he is missing a lot of his teeth (the vets at the humane society had to extract them; as far as i can see, most of his top teeth are gone) but when i heard about this, i switched to soft food.. but there are new recalls just about every day so i'm thinking about just doing what my hairdresser does. she feeds her dogs boneless skinless chicken breasts that come in bags for cheap at trader joe's.
i'd be so pissed and sad if my dog got sick and died, even if i've only had him since february.
or my cat.. i should probably get him on people food too, since i'm sure it won't be too long until dry food is deadly. :(

That is not a complete diet, and when feeding raw, meaty bones are a must.
Her dogs will be sick from malnutrition before long.
