This video is just heartbreaking

This has already been posted on some other blogs but bears repeating as I don't recall it featuring here. The stories about Tennessee Walking Horses are so shocking, about the pain they endure and the barbaric techniques resorted to both to achieve the exaggerated gait and to have the horses hide their discomfort when they are checked by inspectors ( Read more... )

This story popped up on my FB feed about four months ago. So sad.... =( Thankfully most of your Walkers around here are strictly used as trail mounts. Everyone around this area rides barrel horses (including myself).

While I cannot say it surprises me seeing this after working at a vet clinic that often saw these beautiful animals after their show lives were through, it does infuriate me to see such crude and spineless methods that just scream lazy and heartless to me. A great bond between a rider and a horse isn't created by fear, isn't fueled by pain.. it's created and fueled by love, hard work, countless hours, and patience. While I know it would bring no comfort to those horses nor any resolve, I would still like to see some of those methods used upon that trainer himself.

Some people are just horrid. They know they are causing pain to the horse, and they continue to do it intentionally - all for fashion and fame. The very sad thing is that any horse, put through consistent pain and force for long enough, will eventually submit. They disassociate. These trainers are taking advantage of a natural prey animal inclination, for all the wrong reasons.

A girl was recently on one of the FB sale pages that I am a part of talking about how she does what it takes to win and she doesn't care if it cripples the horses, etc. I posted about here a while back. She hasn't given up letting everyone know that she believes soring is perfectly fine and anyone who doesn't do it, doesn't stand a chance in the show ring
