First post

So this is my first post. I did a search and had a look but couldn't see this, but if it's been posted before it wouldn't surprise me. Sorry if it has! :P

I laughed really hard when I saw this. The silly cow only cares about the money and not her horse. I don't know what happened, perhaps something spooked it?

All I can think of is she better be grateful that horse straddled his footing out so far in such a ridiculous manner or else she would be more than just "gutted'. Watching him freak out.. his head seemed to be farther down for most of the time, then reared up. What the heck was going on?

Exactly! He definitely went out of his way there to make sure he didn't nail her! She was clearly more interested in looking at the camera than paying attention to what the Hell she was doing.

I have no idea who this is, but in the immediate aftermath of that I might not exactly be "caring" about my horse either. Horse was clearly fine, whatever the hell set it off like that. The voiceover about being gutted might have been recorded much later, when the horse had been seen to.

Agreed. And. It's from a TV show that is specifically about over-the-top sweet 16 parties. So the context isn't about horse-showing. It's a show about how the families plan the parties, and in this case I guess she was told that any money she won at the horse show would have meant more in the party budget. It probably wasn't really a big part of her real attitude towards the horse or the show, but a tiny sideline that became a big byline for the sake of TV.

Kind of like those wedding shows, and I'll bet they try to show up the "bridezilla-in-training" aspect. Makes for better snarky TV.

As a sidenote, wtf, sweet 16 parties? I think my "sweet 16" consisted of YD lessons and a drive to the licensing office.

LOL, my YD lessons happened in 2nd year med school when the necessity could be avoided no longer. I HATED THE IDEA OF DRIVING OK?!?

Agreed.
And with all those cameras there- um, hello, nervous much? Even if you don't get bad show nerves, that has got to set you off.
I'd be pretty embarassed, too, not only did she faceplant right in the middle of the ring in front of the judge, but she also did it while recording for a major TV show, that many of her friends and 100s of 1000s of other people will watch.

That said, those ridiculous Sweet 16s bug me. My "Sweet 16" was in a crap hotel room in another country because my litttle brother had a hockey tournament. No cell phone, no internet, I didn't get to talk to any of my friends or my boyfriend.

OK, it's been a few years since I was active in the show ring, but are they really wearing mustard jods with kelly green jackets and PURPLE POLKA DOT TIES now?

Also, suck it up Buttercup, all of us have great stories about falling off right in front of judges. It's part of showing and riding.

It's pretty standard turnout for WHPs here. Agree though I'm not a fan of it!

That IS embarrassing. I'm guessing something did spook the pony...the girl needs to spend a bit more time working on her velcro seat, though.

And I have to admit. At that age, I would have been sitting crying in the middle of the ring from shame too. I was totally NOT the most mature teenager.
