The first book in a series should NOT be allowed to end with so many unanswered questions! #TheSecretCountry

(Especially not when your husband has to go to work and can't start reading the next one to you for days.)

That book looks pretty cool. Should I buy it? (And all the sequels, I suppose)

I can't vouch for the sequels yet because aaaaaagggghhhhhh waiting aaaaaaagggghhhhhh but The Secret Country is really, really good. Especially if as a kid yourself you had a penchant for books about kids discovering magic or traveling from the mundane world to magical lands.

You want to know agony? I got a copy of that book in 1999. Then I couldn't find the sequels until they were reissued in 2003.

That ... would be horrifying. Truly.

It's Ace Books's fault. They preferred slicing a whole book in two at a random spot rather than go over the sacred, sacred price threshold of $3.99.

That is so interesting! I had speculated to my husband grylliade that it was one book divided in two because it felt like a midpoint and not an ending, but then I supposed that sort of book-splitting didn't happen back then the way it does now. I feel so privileged to have this "inside scoop"!

Also, this series is amazing and I want to eat it up with a spoon. But, like, not in a weird way! Heh.
