Hello from new translator

Jul 05, 2010 16:44

I've been lurking here a long time, and decided some time ago to finally contribute something. Currently I'm working on the Alice in Jails volume over at Baka-tsuki, and I'll make as much time for it as I can... I'm translating from Chinese, so excuse any awkwardness/inaccuracies and email me if something departs significantly from the Japanese ( Read more... )

I had no idea the chinese volumes caught up until Alice in Jails.XD I bought everything up till the slash in chinese and the rest in japanese.

Sham's identity will be revealed further down the line, but no, he is not a demon or anything like Ronny.

Actually, I don't know if its an officially released Chinese translation - I just found it online. Hopefully it's not too far off...

I've been told that "Sham" is something else, and he(it?)is in Children of Bottle and Peter Pan in Chains and I should read those too.

Technically Sham isn't in Children of Bottle as far as I remember, but certainly someone who is very similar, maybe the exact same type as Sham.

On the first, her name looks to be spelled something like "Lune Palmedes Branville," though please, don't quote me on that-- katakana is tricky business, so it is, of course, not 100% accurate.

As for the translations, the part that I'd done on my own (just a small bit) seems to match up pretty well with what you have, so I'd say you're on the right track? Haha.

But thank you so much for doing this; it's really awesome of you!

(though on the matter of a specific clarification, with elmer's thoughts on huey; what i'd gotten from the part about huey continuing to say that he wished to destroy the world, while his smile was fake, was that because he spoke the truth after smiling for real, it might have meant that he no longer meant it. or, at least, that's how i saw it when i translated that part for myself.)

Lune's name in katakana is ルネ・パルメデス・ブランヴィリエ;
And I have her name jotted down as Lune Palmedes Brinvillier, rather than branville. I tried making it more french or italian or something. -Don't quote me on this either.

Yeah, I had the katakana from the Japanese wiki site-- though if the second katakana in the third part of the name is for "ra," wouldn't that be a bit off? Not to seem at all argumentative, or anything; the rest of the name that you had seems to work rather well, after all.

As far as I know, her name is Renee Paramedes Branvirie. That seems to be completely off, though.

As other people have mentioned, Sham's not the demon. The demon from the 1700's is Ronnie. I'm fairly sure Sham is one of Huey's homunculi. The guy's got like eighty of them.

I just wanted to say, thank you SO much for translating this stuff!

I don't have any answers to your actual questions, though. :(

Wait, you're translating Alice in Jails? For reals?

... Can I, like, marry you?
