[open, multiples welcome] Children of Eden, try not to blame us; we were just human, too error prone

Oct 17, 2010 10:57

Buffy Summers had had enough of the library and it's lack of answers. She had been through every book possible, and they all ended the same way -- they didn't. All the endings were gone, ripped out and scattered across the floor. It was starting to look like Buffy's life at the moment -- yanked from it just before the grand finale. She wasn't ( Read more... )

"Probably that whoever brought us here wasn't about to leave us with any useful information," Spike says from right behind her. Don't you just love that sneaky vampire thing? He flashes her a tiny smile. "Doing all right, love?"

She gave him a smile back as she turned to look at him, before shrugging. "I'm managing. And it's not so much information, it's the endings. Almost as though the person didn't like the way they ended and wanted to rewrite it for some reason."

He kicked off his own shoes and socks and sat next to her. "Bit of a leap. Seems more like they didn't want it to end at all."

"Everything has an ending. They can't avoid that for ever."

"It's clearly a message of some kind, intended or not."

Bela minced her way out of the woods opposite Buffy, her heels still miraculously intact. She shed them as she reached the stream, easing herself down to soak her own feet. "Not all of them could have ended badly, which precludes that motive. Given the state of affairs in the library, I wouldn't be surprised if there was no organized motive at all."

"That's subjective -- whether or not the ending was bad. Or maybe it wasn't they type of ending, just the ending period." Buffy cut herself off before she started rambling, sinking her toes into the silt of the river a little more before continuing. "I think the message might have to do with us."

"There are fairly obvious criteria for whether the ending of a story is 'happy' or not, subjectivity aside. And while it's unlikely all of them had a happily ever after, it's equally unlikely that they all ended badly for those involved." She shrugs, dipping her fingers in the clear stream water. Lord, sensation is amazing. At the second declaration, Bela gives a little tut of amusement ( ... )

"Not really. Some people find blood and carnage to be a happy ending. Depends on your point of view." She knows enough people that could be swayed on either side of the fence, so she wasn't even going to bother. Personally she was a sunshine and puppies kind of girl, but that didn't always work for everyone.

Buffy looks over at her. "I was looking more at the when we were grabbed, more so than the why. Alternate dimensions, including Hell ones, usually don't need a rhyme or reason to pick someone up and take them for a ride."

She closes the book before glancing over to her with a bit of a smirk. "Why not? Are you going to kill me for them?" Because honestly, Buffy would really like to see her try. "You're stuck here, same as me, and the way I see it, we're all in this together. Might as well share information."
