[It's the wee hours of the morning and it's... Actually the first night's sleep Peter's gotten since showing up here that's been anywhere close to decent. So he still looks like hell, just slightly less so at the moment. When he speaks, it's quietly, and he keeps glancing off-screen as if to make sure of something.First things first. I might have

You been sleeping okay, kiddo? Been kind of busy with the dummy over there [Nods at Neal.] to really ask, you know?

I don't intend to be rude, Agent Burke, but could you possibly explain your qualifications in a bit more detail? I'm not familiar with this FBI, so while I don't doubt your experience in something, I'm a bit confused as to what that something is.

The request itself is reasonably, so he'll oblige without complaint.] I've been with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for over ten years now, working in the White Collar Division located in Manhattan, New York, investigating white-collar crimes as defined by the Bureau as, and I quote: [A breath.] "those illegal acts which are characterized by deceit, concealment, or violation of trust and which are not dependent upon the application or threat of physical force or violence". I've headed up task forces dedicated to the pursuit of such offenders where I've had to coordinate efforts across individual state and international lines, and have extensive experience with logistics and coordination when it comes to large groups and agencies.
[Dot dot dot, then a quiet snort.]
Sorry if I sounded like a manual there.

A dry chuckle.] Yeah, complex is one way of putting it. Sometimes it's a little too much so for my taste, but. That's how it is.
...Where did you say you were from again?

King Tibarn of Phoenicis. I assume you're not familiar with the laguz [since you sure as hell don't dress like anyone from his world], but we're able to take on animal forms, much stronger than normal humans in combat.
[And since he respects the initiative, he decides to be helpful.] Incidentally, I've taken a couple flights since our arrival. The visibility here is horrible and the landscape doesn't quite look the same from day to day. It's like a mapmaker's worst nightmare up there.

No, I'm not familiar with laguz, but. Noted. ...Definitely duly noted.
[Awkward cough because right. Down to business and not staring. This is what he's doing. Focus, Peter.]
So not only are there monsters in the forest, creepy not-quite-people out to apparently screw us over six ways to Sunday, and almost nothing in the way of supplies, the forest's apparently the lumber site for the House of Leaves. ...This just keeps getting better and better.

Right motivations, wrong attitude. Sorry for the delayed response. Sergeant Murphy--we met when we all first arrived here.

He's sticking to video so you can see his nosepinch.] Then please, tell me how I should be handling this.
[The roughness in his tone has nothing very little to do with the fact it's Murphy saying it so much as. It's a combination of lack of sleep, worrying about Neal, worrying about the passel of kids they've collected, worrying about home, frustration about the situation, and hating that he DOESN'T know what he's into. He can't do anything until he gets more evidence, more information.
Really, he's glad that people with experience in this sort of thing are stepping up but. Grrrrr at so many things not explicitly Murphy.]

Even if you are. You don't need to tell them that.

[Sarcasm. He has it. In spaaaaades.
But even then he's thinking about something, and wondering if Murphy is up to being a second in this command post "support structure" thing he's apparently gone and decided to set up. Christ, he misses when he had actual files on people. When he had the resources to stalk vet people for his team.]
