So!
I have found courage to watch Merlin again probably thanks to Katie's words and thanks to my friends mrs_leary and souzoukyuketsuu.
It feels good to have so wonderful people to talk to. mrs_leary and I didn't feel the same watching the fourth first episodes but it is always good to hear different opinions, now souzoukyuketsuu and I definitely did feel the same and it felt good to to see that ( Read more... )

1. I think the show leaves it open whether it was actually Ygraine or not. Morgause certainly conjured 'her' for her own ends - "the battle for Arthur Pendragon's soul". Either way, Arthur now suspects a lot about his father that he didn't before. And, crucially, so does Merlin. AND, we know Arthur's open to accepting those of magical persuasion in the right circumstances...
2. I really am sure that Uther didn't know that Ygraine would be the one to pay that price
I agree. He knew someone would die, but he never expected it to be his wife.

If you're weird, so are we all, my dear. <3

Awww, I'm glad you're watching the show again and found some 'Merlin!joy' in the past episodes! \0/

As for your poll: I'm quite sure it wasn't Ygraine who spoke to Arthur rather an illusion Morgause conjured - or if it was the real Ygraine who came back from the dead she was kind of brainwashed when she spoke about Uther so full of hate and blamed him to have known about her death in advance.

I believe that Uther and Ygraine loved each other dearly and although Uther was desperate for an heir he would've never sacrificed her if he knew that using magic for Arthur's conception would take Ygraine from him.

Nimueh didn't tell him that a price in form of another life would've been to pay, just take a look at the talk they had in 01.09 ExcaliburN: I was your friend Uther, you welcomed me here ( ... )

Yeah! I just couldn't give up our wonderful fandom. I'm really hurt about some things that deceived me a lot. But I'll try to keep in memories and my heart about all the things I actually love in the show^^

I think you're totally right about Uther fearing to lose Arthur if his son ever "discover" that he used magic to have him.

And, then, you know... Even if Ygraine was an apparation and not Ygraine at all, I like one thing about it. Arthur actually saw his mother. Ygraine, being Ygraine or not, has Ygraine's face, I'm pretty sure about it. So, now, Arthur will have that memory to cherish about his mother.

(Oh... It happens to me all the time. Not that I delete my messages but that LJ doesn't post them in the first place xD It's so annoying :p)

you make me think very hard, which is always a good thing.
Yeah. You don't understand how I can be so weird TOT
*cries*

Na! I'm really happy to have you as my friend because we can talk about so much and share so much.
LOVE YOU EVEN MORE
<3

Oh... It would be nice to ask Bradley how he felt about that scene? Was it just a trick in his eyes?
The important part tough is that I really think that this apparition, Igraine or not, actually had Igraine's face and I'm just so happy to know that Arthur was actually able to see what his mum looked like and has now this memory to cherish whatever.

I think this episode will be one I'll be more than happy to watch again and again ÖÖ
So beautiful!<3

Thanks for letting me know what you thought about the episode!

Regarding #2 - These were my thoughts pretty much exactly, while watching this episode. I think if anything, like you said, Uther would have thought it would be his own life that would be taken, and even if he had an inkling that it might not all work out like he wanted, I think due to denial or just...being desperate as he was for an heir, he chose to ignore that, and really did think he wasn't hurting Igraine. *nods*

As for #1, the more I think about it, I'm kind of on the fence, I guess, but I did think she seemed pretty convincing at times? I could see it being that maybe she thought she'd been betrayed, and that this was why she was telling Arthur this? But on the other hand, why would she tell him something that she knows would upset him so much? So yeah, I don't know. @_@

I really loved this episode though. <3 Felt like season one all over again. ;___; No idea why we had to wait EIGHT episodes to get here, but... It made me happy to finally see Merlin and Arthur talking again. ;__;

Well... I do think that it wasn't the true Igraine. But, as I said it could be and perhaps she was confused, perhaps.
Tough, one important fact here, the apparition, Igraine or not, actually has Igraine's face. I'm pretty sure of that. So, at least, Arthur did see his mother, discovered what she looked like and it feels good to know that, isn't it?
Now, he'll have this image to cherish.
<3<3<3

Yeah! You're right, little by little, it feels like we have back all hat we love in season 1. But why did we have to wait so long? ;O;

I really hope it wasn't a trick, and Arthur really saw his mother. But I'm beginning to have some doubts, I thought she was too quick in telling Arthur all about his father's betrayal. Then again, we can't know for sure if she's speaking the truth, because Uther didn't speak up about the incident, and continues to hide it from Arthur - he should have defended his actions because it seem like he didn't know Igraine would have to die in exchange for a child in his conversation with Nimueh last season. Anyway, heard an interesting theory that Igraine is actually an impostor, Nimueh. Hmm, guess we'll see sooner or later.

It could be. It's sad but I really think that Arthur didn't actually saw his mother. But, hey, one important fact he actually saw his mother's face and it IS important, because I'm sure this was indeed Ygraine's face^^
So he'll be able to remember her^^
