My grandpa passed this May. My grandma had to move out of their house, so now it sits empty, waiting to be fixed up and sold. I haven't go over there since. It's hard and I hate the thought of someone else living there. ((hugs))
I have a hard time imaging anyone else living in that house. I was there in August when the realtor brought someone to look at the house and I just wanted to chase them out.
Wow- already having to bundle up..We are still in shorts/flipflops around here. :)
I still have a really hard time going in my grandfathers house, and he died nearly 3 years ago. It is just to weird in there without being able to hear his voice.
Your writing about your grandpa makes me remember mine, who passed away 14 years ago this last summer.....he was the bestest man evar, I respected him so much and looked to him for advice almost every day as a teenager.....I miss him...
I've been living in the same town with him for 11 years and it's hard to drive by the house and know he isn't there. Because I'm so close, I should be able to process this faster, but it hurts to be reminded daily that he's gone.
I'm so sorry - about the weather doing a rough number on your hands, your stress, and especially about the situation with your Grandpa's house. Very sad to have to close that chapter so concretely.
I don't blame you about Thanksgiving - if I weren't such a Thanksgiving dinner-food kind of freak, I'd probably opt out, too. I hope you get lots of rest instead.
Have you tried Udderly Smooth creme for your hands? I used that when my hands were constantly wet and washed as a vet. tech. Now I make a beeswax/honey/olive oil/essential oil balm that I use obsessively everywhere that is dry - I'll send you out some to try.
I use glysomed at night and during the day when I remember. The problem is, when I have a few seconds to stop and put lotion on, my hands are dirty from handling money or pumping gas. When my thumb cracks (right in the corner by my nail) I put polysporin on it and a bandaid which seems to help it heal, then I try to keep it moisturized.
Ugh, my cuticles are a disaster around this time of year, too :/
Do your hands get wet often? I used to use those waterproof stretchy bandaids prophylactically on my thumbs (they would just start bleeding randomly) during the day and then moisturize liberally at night.
An old co-worker swore by either Aquaphor or Lansinoh for cracked fingers. (Infant room in a daycare center, much handwashing.) Or you can Superglue a crack shut. The Superglue stings, but the crack stays shut. :p
