I pretty much denounce it as well. After a few days of talking with a couple people on the subject, I pretty much realize there's no way in defending either side of this conflict. The only reason I wrote my little blurb on my livejournal was because I kept seeing so many Anti-Isreal, Anti-Jewish groups on Facebook and everything on the news was so one-sided. It's situations like this that make me realize why I don't watch the news all that much.

It's interesting, the social strata that fall one way or the other. What is it about the Germanic states that has made them come out behind Israel? What is about Scandanavia that made all of it come out behind Palestine? You may be seeing a lot of anti-Israel groups in Facebook, but I've got as many Jewish friends as secrular liberal ones, and have seen lots of both.

It sort of reminds me of the old game of putting hands on top of each other and continually trying to restack your hand on top as the other person does the same. Except both sides are constantly seeking underdog status; I get the impression that many people who defend either side do it from the perspective that "everyone else" is on the opposite, and they're being rebellious and independent minded. (This only applies to distant, American commentators, however.)

I agree with everything you've written here and in the post... oy.
I had some friends who organized a protest in NY that was explicitly pro-Israel pro-Palestine pro-peace and pro-ceasefire. That was a breath of fresh air
