Insta-rec

I was intrigued by picfor1000 -- it's a neat concept -- but passed since I only do one challenge a year and I'm seriously considering this year's remix, despite the fact the only fandom I have five stories in is Yami and that I only write 2-and-a-half fandoms total, but whatever. Go read randomeliza's The Blameless And The Wicked -- SGA but don't let that stop you; ( Read more... )

Do remix! Do remix! Plenty of people sign up with only one fandom (I mean, I only have three that qualify, and one of those is not going to have enough other people signing up to be viable), and it could always use more animanga people.

Thank you for the rec, too. Lovely story.

Welcome ^^

Having finally gotten to a place where the thousand word requirement doesn't scare me, now of course I'm fretting over having so few fandoms and characters I write. Because I do recognize it's not fair to list fandoms you really don't want to write, but I can't put Yami, Yami, Yami either. Sadly. *frets*

Well, to add to what Phoebe's already said, I'd think you have a good chance of getting Yami, if you list it. After all, I'm sure musesfool will be assigning people where she most needs them, and there will be many fewer people volunteering for a small fandom like Yami than something huge like Harry Potter. I had a big long list of fandoms I'd write last year, but I ended up paired with a Yami and Saiyuki person, because clearly there was more need for that than for another BtVS writer.

And furthermore. p_zeitgeist January 8 2007, 07:02:51 UTC
Dude, I just re-checked last year's rules. Because I am a lawyer, and sometimes I even remember that. Here's the relevant language, no potential change to which has been announced:

* the top three fandoms (if you've got more than one) in which you are most eager to write (and please, be specific, e.g., if you only
write Buffy and not Angel, say so) (this doesn't have to be the same as the fandoms in which you've already written)

Note that first parenthetical. I can come up with no way to construe it other than the obvious one, which is that the rules must contemplate and allow for participation by people who can only write in one fandom. Which in turn means that while you may feel pressured by community mores in the direction of offering to write more than one fandom, you wouldn't have to.

Anything else we can be reassuring and/or irritating about?

Oh, yes, please do remix. Please, please, please, it will be so much fun to have you in the game.

Do I need to know anything about SGA besides the fact that there's somebody called Rodney in it, and possibly someone called John?

I have all kinds of remix angst waiting in the wings, but my principal worry is what if I don't get a person with at least one Yami story? As I understand it, you have to submit three fandoms you're willing to write and I'm not sure I can come up with that many. Which makes me feel all pouty and ineffectual but I've never had the knack of picking up new characters quickly.

I know next to nothing about SGA either so I think as long as you have John=military and Rodney=scientist that should be enough.

You do have to come up with three fandoms, but it's much less risky than Yuletide, because Victoria does the matchups by hand rather than using an algorithm. Which means that people can and do submit signups that say, I really, really want to write X, no really, and I'll do my best with Y or Z if that's the only way you can make this work, sorry to be difficult and thanks for moderating this, which is a job I know I'm making harder. In fact, I'm pretty sure my signup said something like that last year, and I saw others that were even more piteous in their begging and pleading ( ... )
