I think visiting a couple of the local museums would be a good idea. We may achieve better results if we make appointments with the curators in advance. That way we can guarantee that they'll be able to meet with us. They may also be able to gather extra study materials for us if we ask beforehand.
Do you know where the cemeteries or the haunted house you mentioned are? I haven't heard much about either until now.
