I finally had my birthday cupcake today - I've been trying unsuccessfully all week, and today was my last shot if I didn't want to also give Andrew a cupcake, which for multiple reasons is just a bad idea.  It was a delicious cupcake, chocolate with chocolate frosting and a marshmallow filling.  Yum ( Read more... )

the other reason is because they are right wing, tea party nuts who wish to control other folks bodies and thoughts!

For an author you should be able to come up with a better imaginary concept for why you can't go to that restaurant anyway, get that mind of yours working on it.

I suspect you can research cleavers, as you know we are big fans of the Cutco knife brand, although we do not own a cleaver.

Luv ya,

What happened to the concept of "no picture, didn't really happen".

What cupcake.

You are cracking me up. My children hate all mommy stories about coffee. And I hear you about the kiddie music. Fortunately, my kids never went through a Wiggles phase, but there was a while when Husband and I were making up filthy stories about the Imagination Movers because we loathed them so much. At some point, Husband even got tired of Sandra Boynton's lullaby "Little One." (I never have.)

I don't suppose you remember Boynton's "Snuggle Puppy"? Bill figured out that you can sing it to Ozzy Osborne's "Iron Man". That helps considerably, although as we use it for bedtime reading, I'm not entirely sure it helps calm Andrew down much.

I did some horrible things to "Make Way for Ducklings", but I still contend that Mr Mallard had another family up the river, or possibly a duck harem, and he left Mrs Mallard to raise the children while he went and had duck orgies elsewhere.

I do remember "Snuggle Puppy"! And have been enjoying resetting it to "Iron Man." I have a pretty huge tolerance for Boynton, though. I still can't believe the brilliance of her "Remarkable Cows" song followed up by "Aardvarks" and the aardvarks saying all sorts of socially awkward things and being so pleased with themselves.

The gender stereotyping in "Make Way for Ducklings" is something to behold! And ducks, in real life, I love them passionately but they can behave utterly disgracefully. Shaking my head at ducks.

I love your "bad parenting" story. I think it's going to keep me smiling all morning.

I feel terrible about lying to him, I really do. Until I realize I haven't been to Chik-Fil-A in a few days, and then I feel much better. (And healthier.)

Ooooh, I remember the horror of having to listen to my kids' cds in those endless loops. They have now graduated to listening to (educational) audio books for kids which is much better. I know so much now about everything from the middle ages to space travel to the weather etc. :)

I used to be able to listen to my music, but since turning four, he has started expressing his own opinions about music. It's really annoying. I think half the reason I forget to turn off the iPod (and thus let the battery run down) is my subconscious desire to listen to Coldplay and Imagine Dragons on the radio.
