Gen Fics
Sick Day by
awanderingbard. Sweet and fluffy one-shot in which Sherlock proves to be a terrible patient.
The Christmas Box by
carenejeans. One-shot. John gets Sherlock a box for Christmas.
Almonds and Aniseed by
shinychimera and
yeomanrand. One-shot, G, Molly Hooper pre-series. Molly bakes a cake - how can I not love this fic? Summary: On the first day of the rest of her life, Molly prepares a bewitching teatime treat for her mother.
404 error: file not found by
nejem. Angsty one-shot where old!Sherlock loses his memory. Beautifully done, with a gut-wrenching twist at the end. Vaguely Johnlock, but not overtly so, which is why it's under Gen fics.
I'll Read to Your Bones by
221b_hound. Very short one-shot, death!fic. Far in the future, Sherlock reads to John's bones after he's buried. Yes, it's a death-fic, but strangely enough, it made me absurdly happy to read this, and I ended it with a smile on my face. No idea why; I'm weird like that.
Jawn of the Dead by Silver Pard. G, one-shot. Sherlock comes back after faking his death, but a drunk John and a drunk Lestrade think he's a zombie. Absolutely hysterical.
Epic Bromance (which is to say, not Gen, but not Johnlock either; some of these could be interpreted either way)
Horse and Carriage by
flawedamythyst. Aesexual!Sherlock/John. Sherlock proposes. John thinks the whole idea is ludicrous. One-shot start to a series. Fabulously sweet and funny, and tottally IC.
The Important Bit by Solshine. Another Ace!Sherlock/Straight!John get married fic, this time for a case. Medium-length, 7 chapters, PG. Scenes from their marriage, basically, very well done.
In Which John is a BAMFy MoFo, OMG! by
kantayra. PG-13 but very gen. John's BAMFness and Sherlock's damsel-in-distress act are caught forever on camera. So Scotland Yard can mock. A lot.
Guitar Man by
221b_hound. Series where John was once in a band, and Sherlock finds out. Jamming ensues. Lots of musical links, lots of shorter and longer stories within.
Bromance isn't Dead by cyerus. John and Lestrade are epic bros. Some hints at John/Sherlock, but in the background. One-shot, very funny and cracktastically true.
Supreme Commander of Endangered Planet Operations by hyacinth_sky747. G, one-shot. Sherlock and John are nine. Still mad though. Flippin' Adorable.
If You Were Gay edited by Sibzlipz. Video using "If You Were Gay" from the musical Avenue Q - John singing to Sherlock. Really well edited, very very funny. The beginning about John being on the subway is particularly funny.
Lost for Words by awanderingbard. R, h/c, sick!Sherlock. Sherlock is attacked while John is away and is left with severe brain trauma, resulting in the loss of motor function and the ability to speak freely. Amazing, amazing description of how John cares for Sherlock during his recovery.
Crossovers & AUs (most of these will be Johnlock; nature of the beast, I've found!)
Two Doctors, A Nurse, A Detective and a Scot by TheShoelessOne. General, John/Sherlock, crossover with Doctor Who (Eleven, Amy & Rory). Absolutely hysterical set of one-shots where John and Sherlock travel with the Doctor. They fit into Team TARDIS so well, you never want them to leave. Several sequels, in the following order: The Joke is Better the Second Time, Third Time's the Charm, Mixed Signals, Same Old Story, Some One Liners, I've Forgotten the Punchline.
Long Ago and Far Away by lotherington. Johnlock, WW2 AU, 22 one-shots, NC-17. Extemely well done, slow-paced story about Sherlock and John before and during WW2. I love this period of history, and the historial detail is dead on. It's a great read.
you are a paradigm by 1electricpirate. Long one-shot, first in a series. HP crossover, John/Sherlock, PG-13/R. In which John is (reluctantly) a wizard, Mycroft is (apparently) omniscient, and Sherlock is (surprisingly) oblivious. Not crack, absolutely gorgeous writing, extremely well done.
A Study in Winning by Jupiter_Ash. R/NC-17, very long but complete first part of an AU series where Sherlock and John are professional tennis players. Yes, I know. But if you liked the movie Wimbledon, you're going to LOVE this story. I did, and I do. Best tennis scenes ever, more heart-attack inducing than most chase scenes I've seen.
Equilibrium by augustbird. PG-13, long one-shot, Sherlock meets Flowers for Algernon, slash but not overly so. John is infected with a virus at Baskerville that makes him super-smart, and then destroys his brain. Really well done and sweetly sad.
Their Whole Life Through by eight_demands. PG, Johnlock, series, AU in which they meet another way. Just fun, really.
Performance in a Leading Role by MadLori. R, Johnlock AU where they're movie stars. Fantastic, long, and extremely captivating.
A Great Light by achycarnations. PG-13, Johnlock, Apocalypse!fic, everyone dies. Of course, they don't get around to falling in love until the end of the world.
Sons of the Morrighan by nickelsandcoats. R, two-part series. The first story is largely Johnlock; the second is Mystrade. Beautiful AU where Sherlock and Mycroft are ravens. No, seriously. Read it, it's fantastic.
Fill our mouths with cinnamon now by lbmisscharlie. NC-17, part one of a series, Johnlock. When Sherlock invited john to live with him in 221B, he forgot to mention he was father to a 4-year-old girl. My notes: Imogen is precious and very realistic - I absolutely love her.
Northwest Passage by Kryptaria. NC-17, Johnlock, Canadian!John. John's been a recluse living in the Canadian wilderness, when Sherlock is sent to him for the winter. Well-told, well-paced, and the regular characters pop up in unexpected and wonderfully original ways.
Everlasting by cypress_tree. Five chapters, R, Johnlock, cross-over with Tuck Everlasting but I've never seen the movie or read the book and I was just fine. Sherlock and Mycroft have lived a very very long time, and then Sherlock meets John. Warnings for Major Character Death, but so lovely and I think worth it. Sweet and simply told.
Back in the Day by KeelieThompson1. NC-17, Johnlock, AU where John's younger than Sherlock, and meet while he's at uni. Drug use and such, absolutely fantastic telling of how that meeting might have changed their lives - and not changed them at all. There's a sequel which is still a WIP but nearing completion.
NEW!!!!
There Is No Death by fairylights. Teen, Gen, cross-over with Star Wars. As long as you've seen the movies and are at least aware that the world is crazy expansive, you're good. Sherlock is a Jedi wash-out. Then he meets John on Coruscant.
NEW!!!!
Fairy Tale of Regent's Park by Basingstroke. PG, Johnlock, AU. Summary: There is a swan, and he's not named Sherlock. There is a duck, and he's not named John. My comment: so flippin' adorable you will literally melt into a pile of goo. Read it. Seriously.
NEW!!!!
You Give Me Fever by michi_thekiller. NC-17, 16K one-shot, Johnlock, Greaser!Lock (set in the 1950s America). Summary: Thou givest fever when we kisseth, fever with thy flaming youth. Fever I'm afire; fever, yea, I burn forsooth My comment: OMG if you read nothing else from this list, READ THIS.
Johnlock
You Can Imagine the Christmas Dinners by
ardenteurophile. Nine parts, complete, sweetly funny. Sherlock takes John along for Christmas dinner with Mycroft and Mummy (And "Anthea", too). Over the course of the evening, John realises that everyone in the room - apart from him - seems to think that he and Sherlock are a couple. SHENANIGANS ENSUE. Sherlock/John pre-slash/slash.
The Heart on Your Sleeve by
flawedamythyst. One-shot, John/Sherlock. Sherlock stared at the imperfect circle on his left wrist in horror, then sat down on his bed with a bit of a thump. After over thirty years, his heartmark was finally showing activity. This was not good.
Senza Catene by
madlori. One-shot, Sherlock/John. Sherlock sings opera, complete with audio files. Fantastic.
Disguise by kaalee. Six long chapters, complete, NC-17 John/Sherlock. Sherlock's disguises are little more than a nuisance to John until one day he walks into the kitchen dressed as someone from John's past, someone John had tried to forget. Totally engrossing and so well plotted. You have to keep reading to find out what happens next (and before!).
Echoes Through Time by chellefic. Long one-shot, Sherlock/John, NC-17. Mummy sends a trunk from the Holmes cottage in Sussex to 221B. Its contents alter the way John and Sherlock see themselves and one another.
I Prefer to Text by songlin. Two-part series of texts between John and Sherlock. G, but references to John/Sherlock.
Two Coffees One Black One with Sugar Please by Linpatootie. Five-part John/Sherlock how-they-got-together series, starts off PG then gets explicit later on. Sweet and funny and terribly adorable. Summary for part the first: Sherlock wants to conduct a sleep study of sorts. John contemplates smothering him with a pillow.
Ooo Mister Holmes - a Fan Fiction by anon. One of the Anons on the kinkmeme requested really poorly written fanfic. Another anon filled with this. I laughed for fifteen minutes straight, but I have a weird sense of humor. Excellent parody of the worst ff.net has to offer. Hopefully it shelves well.
Lacuna by coloredink. PG-13, long one-shot, Johnlock. John has amnesia. Sherlock takes advantage. Very sweet, actually.
Planet Sherlock by pir8fancier. R, Johnlock, one-shot, first time (and a few thereafter). John and Sherlock devise a rating system for sex. Funny & sweet.
The Good Old Days by cathedral_carver. PG-13, one-shot. John and Sherlock are old together.
Winter's Delights by Kate_lear. NC-17, long one-shot with a short sequel, Christmas Dinner trope. Sherlock's extended family is absolutely hysterical and wonderful, and while this was written pre-S2, it hasn't been Joss'ed in any significant way. Funny & sexy, definitely a worthy addition to the Christmas Dinner trope.
Through the Looking Glass by ObsidianEmbrace. R, three-part series. When you chase criminals over rooftops, death is always a possibility. We woke up in 1889 instead. Which is not a place where two men in a relationship want to be.
Voice Like Thunder by JezebelGoldstone. PG, one-shot, pre-Reichenbach, where John comforts Sherlock during a late-night thunderstorm. I strongly recommend opening
this page for thunder and
this page for rain, before you start reading.
Suite for Violin and Clarinet by AwkwardAnnie. PG, six short chapters, pre-Reichenbach, in which John buys and plays a clarinet. Sherlock catches him. Music ensues. Beautifully written and lyrical, definitely worth your time reading.
Mosquito by DuchessCloverly. VIDEO! Three minutes long, PG-13, gorgeously edited. "Sherlock is a little bit obsessed with John."
Be Here Now by Todesfuge. NC-17, post-Reichenbach, dark & angsty. John Watson was already fighting demons when he and Sherlock met. With Sherlock's suicide, it all comes flooding back, forcing Sherlock to intervene before he's solved the persistent riddles of Jim Moriarty and his game.
There's Another Bedroom Upstairs (Hint Hint) by guns_and_poses. PG13, post-Reichenbach. Silly and wee bit cracky. Mrs. Hudson asks the boys to move their activities upstairs. John is mortified, Sherlock is smug, and there's a bit of misunderstanding, too.
The Death of Me by cathedral_carver. PG, pre-slash, one-shot. Despite the title and summary, not overly angsty but rather sweet. "I was enjoying myself immensely until I died."
Notes by otterbatch (joolabee on AO3, but so far the fic's only on Tumblr). R, magic realism. Sherlock sleeps when John's awake, John sleeps when Sherlock's awake. They communicate by notes.
NEW!!!!
The One With the Proposal by
kim47. NC-17, three-part 22K, established relationship. Proposing shouldn't be this hard. My comment: excellent, humorous take on how Sherlock asks John to marry him.
NEW!!!!
I've Got My Eyes on Higher Things by Vivi_Marius. Teen, short one-shot. Sherlock is blind.
Mystrade: (I admit to being ashamed how short this section is.)
Echo (video by duchesscloverly). Even if you don't watch videos, watch this one, because it tells a beautiful story. Angsty, character death, professional-quality editing, about 3 minutes long.
The Scotch-Verse by
earlgreytea68. Lestrade/Mycroft, with Sherlock/John in later parts.
Sons of the Morrighan by nickelsandcoats. R, two-part series. Yes, I mention it in AUs above, but I don't want it to be missed by those looking for strictly Mystrade fic.
Because You're Worth It by
wastingyourgum. PG, one-shot, kink-meme. HYSTERICAL response at the kink-meme, where the prompt requested that Greg be on the bidding block at a Policeman's Charity Auction. Hey, you know what section this is in, so you can guess who wins. :) (Make sure you scroll down; there's an epilogue!)
The DI and the Spy by chasingriver. PG-13, long one-shot. Greg is an early-morning runner. Mycroft is an early riser who happens to live on Greg's running route. Hilarity ensues.
OT3 & Other Pairings:
Not Your Average Threesome 'Verse by thirdbird. R, John/Lestrade + Sherlock. Which is to say, John/Lestrade and Sherlock is mostly aesexual with a serious bromance going on with John. Really sweet and funny, with an absurd amount of sick-fic (even the author admits it), and a very easy and enjoyable read.
Rites of Passage by
fennishjournal. NC-17, John/Sherlock/Lestrade, three-part series with first two parts complete. Well-written "what-if" of John and Lestrade getting together after Sherlock's death, and then what happens when Sherlock returns. Very much focused on the emotional issues involved.
The Making Of by emmagrant01. NC-17, John/Sherlock/Lestrade. In the aftermath of Sherlock's death, John Watson and Greg Lestrade take comfort in each other. But of course, Sherlock isn't really dead, so this is all about to get complicated.
Dirty Little Secret by Velvet Mace. PG-13, John/Mycroft. John discovers that he's been married to Mycroft for several months.
The Weight of Words by dorothydonne. PG-13, John/Mycroft, three-part series. John is pregnant. The baby is Mycroft's. Chaos ensues. (Not Omegaverse.) Lovely, with just the right amount of angst and fluff.
Secret Guilty Pleasure: Omega fic
Tremble by songlin. One shot, AU John/Sherlock as teenagers. John and Sherlock are eighteen years old and still haven't presented as alpha or omega, though they're both sure they know how their cards have been dealt. That is their first mistake.
Expectations by rosenritter. Nine chapters, John/Sherlock post-Reichenbach. Well-written, in-character, Omega!John, Alpha!Sherlock, mpreg, bittersweet and hysterical in turns. Several epilogues that go into kid!fic, and I think it might be the best kid!fic since EGT's Chaos Theory. LOVE.
No Limited Dimensions by
cleflink. PG, Johnlock preslash where normal John wakes up in a world where suddenly he's an omega, one-shot that will hopefully be expanded. The second time John Watson got shot, he woke up in Russell Square Gardens.
Bonded by eight_demands. Series, PG-13 mostly, very very AU Omegaverse, where everyone is much, much younger. John/Mycroft, Mystrade, and John&Sherlock. A fascinating take on world-building in the OmegaVerse, with rebellion on the horizon and lots of fascinating twists and turns. Totally worth reading, especially if you like the world-building aspect of Omegaverse.
Little Things by
bradspyjamas. PG-13 mostly, but with more explicit sequels planned. Johnlock, a slightly varied Omegaverse where pregnancy is not a guarantee, thus comes as a shock to John and Sherlock. Told entirely in 221Bs, and a sweet, funny, adorable ride through John's pregnancy.
Longing to Belong by couchbarnacle. R, Johnlock, Mycroft/Anthea, Omega!John & Alpha!Sherlock, where John is actually bonded to another man as a teen, and it's broken off when he has a miscarraige. It still takes another 15 years to find Sherlock. Great BAMFy John, too.
Can I be the Alpha? by Trista_zevkia. NC-17, one-shot. Did you ever wonder where the Omegaverse came from? So does John. Sherlock is strangely silent on the subject...
NEW!!!!
A House in the country by PlainJane. NC-17, medium-length, Johnlock, Omega!Sherlock, Alpha!John. With new "real rape" laws in place, every unbonded omega is at risk, including Sherlock Holmes. He needs someone to help protect him and hide his true nature, but John Watson may be more of a problem than a solution.
