Love this bit right here:
Alice fumbled to hold on to both the cover and the tape. “What are you doing?”
“Nothing at all,” said River cheerfully. “Bit of the tape, please, if you could, Alice?”
“With what, my third hand?”

whenever the Doc and River are arguing I feel like shouting, "Oh, just make-out already!"
I feel like that guy on the TV show, going "....wait for it!....."
Alice's crack about her third hand is one of my favorites - I'm glad the joke came across! :)

Lovely as usual. Your characterization is always spot-on, for both the Doctor and River.

Lemon and sugar are excellent. I could never understand why people stuff them with other things. Waste of a perfectly yummy crepe, if you ask me.

Great chapter, as always. ^^

*ahem* Sorry. Yes, I greatly enjoyed this. The relationship between River and Alice, the ways in which their interaction changes at different encounters, is fascinating. River's comment on the Doctor seeing her and Rose as the objects they are named for was very intriguing.
Mostly I love how even in all the bickering and tension and drama, you still bring the fun.

As for Rose...I'll admit, I'm a Rose/Doctor shipper. That's how I came in, that's how I started writing DW fanfic. I won't argue about Rose's character or RTD's treatment of her here; she doesn't figure largely into this story, though her "ghost" is a small part of it, and besides, I don't mind that you don't like her, as long as you don't mind that I do.
That said: one of the things that intrigues me about River is that the Doctor can love again, even after losing Rose. I said earlier that I wrote Water Music to better understand their relationship - and that figures into it. I wanted to explain why the Doctor does love someone other than Rose. Because heck, I hate to think that having lost Rose, he would never love again. That's just ridiculous ( ... )
