Any of y'all out there in lj-land have memories connected to songs? Like, whenever it comes on, all these thoughts of events and feelings/emotions of people just come flooding back in. I have those moments a lot. In fact, I stopped playing one of my cds because of it. And the other song, well, I can't really avoid it at the moment ( Read more... )

Maybe it's because I'm a musical person, but yeah, I know exactly what you mean. There are songs that will come on and it doesn't matter how many years it's been, I still know exactly what that song reminds me of and it either makes me feel really good or crappy, depending on how things have changed since then.

What a blessing and a curse.

As for the coffee, I'd like to say I'd be open to the idea, but in all honesty, I'd probably give you a strange look and scurry in the opposite direction as quickly as possible.

I definitely get the music thing. For me, though, it's more like a certain song will remind me of a certain period of my life, and then that will bring back a particular memory of that period in my life. Songs also remind me of other people, especially if that person gave me the song, or talked about it or the band who plays it.

And the coffee thing...it would definitely depend on my mood. I might think about how fun it would be to get to know someone new and say Sure, or I might give think how creepy and weird it was and just walk away without saying anything at all. But I think I'd more likely go for the latter one (as long as the person asking didn't look really weird and creepy).

there are soooo many songs that i've tied to different experiences, friendships, relationships, etc. in my life. sometimes it's a good thing and sometimes it's a bad thing, but there are now a few songs that have been ruined for me. it's quite a shame.

as for the coffee thing, i agree with your other two readers. it would probably depend upon the situation and the mood i was in. honestly if someone randomly approached me like that and that was the first thing they said to me i would be slightly weirded out. i think it would be better if he tried to make a casual conversation first and then asked me to join him for coffee.
