Oh man. I was reading that post earlier and I want to bang my head against a wall. I've also noticed the term "ableism" being used quite a bit recently. While I understand the need to sometimes be "sensitive", this just seems silly. "Lame" is not offensive at all, and I don't understand the need to find something offensive about it either. Now if "lame" were replaced with "retarded" maybe there would be a valid argument. But even I use that word sparingly.

idk, if there was someone legitimately hurt by me using a certain word then I would probably go out of my way not to use it around them just for the sake of not being an asshole, but I'm not going to censor myself just because a few jerks like to get all up in arms about something they have nothing to do with in order to make themselves feel superior.
Because that's what it seems like to me most of the time, honestly. Some big "I am a better person" contest bullshit. Like how discussions on privilege always end up devolving into "I AM BLACK AND POOR AND GAY AND FEMALE THEREFORE MY OPINION IS MOST IMPORTANT"

Ohfuck, "privilege," is another one of those words like, "ableist," that makes me want to scream in frustration. Yeah, okay, there might be certain things I can't understand from a first-person perspective because I am a white, middle-class female, but that doesn't mean my opinion doesn't matter. :T
