Taking responsibility irresponsibly.

Somehow ended up discussing the topic of responsibility with a friend. It made me recall one of the things I couldn't understand about Japan. When people here talk about "taking responsibility" for any problems, it usually refers to the current dude quitting and pulling some new hapless bugger onboard to clean up the mess he's leaving behind ( Read more... )

TEPCO shouldn't have put the back up power generator in the basement, for one. It just doesn't seem like common sense...

Also TEPCO doesn't seem to be taking any responsibility for this thing at all. And they're guilting all of Tokyo into radically conserving energy which is annoying as fuck. It's your fault that this shit went down not ours and it's the middle of summer. 28 degrees air conditioning my rear end!

Apparently they don't even have the names of some of the brave men and women who went back to battle the situation, because they jumped in to help and things were chaotic. So if they develop cancer or stuff in the future, they might not even be able to claim :'(
