Skyfall-related mind dump! So I can see it again, and have room for more incoherently expressed feelings and thoughts ;) I wish Craig were enjoying his ride as Bond as much as I am. I was so excited at the prospect getting as many as eight Craig Bond films, and now it seems as though we'll be lucky to get four. I just wish we could have nice

LOL yes! I need to pick up some Q icons, I think.
Actually, the chemistry between Craig’s Bond and everyone everywhere all the time. I think I’ve commented on this in the past - probably in the context of one of his earlier Bond forays - but Daniel Craig is one of those actors who is just a chemistry generator. It’s part of the reason why I still loved him as Bond even though I didn’t really love Casino Royale or QoS.
No one liked QoS. In its defense it was pretty much done without a script. But still.
I'm guessing most people saw the Moneypenny thing coming at some point. For me I think it was the first time they talked about the field not being for everyone.
Judi Dench's every expression and line delivery, because she is incredible and amazing.
Well, that just goes without saying. I'm going to miss her.
Bond sneaking up on the sex trafficking victim while she's naked in the shower. What an odd and tone deaf ( ... )

I’m surprised you haven’t already ;) How has your search for fic gone? I just know there are at least 10 stories out there that have Q making the trip to Macau instead of Eve, fear of flying be damned.

Ha! I think johnnybvo and my brother did. But yeah, they’re the only ones. I’d curse the writer’s strike, but then it did also give us Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog…. And in the writers defense, I didn’t care much for the direction either.

Ah, you had me beat then ;)
I'm going to miss her.
Me too! 17 years / 7 franchise films is a heck of run. I never would have expected it when she first showed up in Goldeneye. Whomever had that casting idea deserves a prize.
YES. Could not possibly agree more. She's a sex slave, clearly Bond should sleep with ( ... )

Ha! I finally found a couple icons. I actually never did start that fic search. I'm hoping I have minions who will find it for me. I've been talking to one of the Sherlock authors about a fic revolving around Sherlock and John seeing/not seeing it during the Reichenbach separation. Not sure if anything will come of it or not.

I totally agree. I had no idea she'd last so long. Do you think the death of Desmond Llewelyn had anything to do with their decision to replace her? I mean in the sense that they were already replacing upper management with new faces. Dame Dench looks like she's still going strong.
I really don’t know. I’d be interested to see it ( ... )

lol, alright. Well, I have only been dabbling in Skyfall fic myself, but I will certainly let you know if I come across anything. Mostly I'm seeing a *lot* of manips on Tumblr ;)

Dame Dench looks like she's still going strong. No, I don't think so. I originally thought her eyesight issues were behind it (she was diagnosed not long ago with some kind of eye disease that will purportedly cost her her vision in time, I think), but as you said, she's still going strong in terms of other projects. If I were being kind, I would say they figured they got a story-telling two-fer in killing the character off: you get to pile on to Bond's undercurrent of angst (further stripping away the only people who are important to him and highlighting his continued failure to protect those he's devoted to), and you ( ... )

I could legit watch Daniel Craig running ...
While I like Craig very much, there are some moments when I find him very robotic looking. Most of all when he is running but not exclusively.
I had a hard time with the idea that Bond would turn his back on fellow agents who were at risk of being exposed just to sulk for three months ...
I don't think it's entirely out-of-character for the new incarnation of Bond. Having said that, did they say it was three months he was away? Was that the duration after which his apartment got sold? I thought they said one month. Apart from that, I don't think he could've done much about the actual exposure of the other agents. Speaking of, I guess it was just a "McGuffin" but that actual list got less and less important during the course of the film?
The movie's whole look. Just beautifully composed shot after beautifully composed shot. For me the by far ( ... )

Ha! Not a chance. I’m actually still not very excited for The Hobbit. Not sure when I’ll see it, actually. But odds are I will see Skyfall a fourth time before I get to PJ’s latest exercise ;)

It’s funny that you say that, because while there is something mechanical about his movements, I think he’s actually one of the most natural on screen runners I’ve seen in action films lately. His movements always strike me as very clean. I usually have a hard time watching action stars run without laughing.

Interesting! Seems like there are more holdouts than one would assume. :) At this point it would be highly unlikely that I would be able to enjoy watching the movie, too much do I associate it with being driven by commercial interests. It even risks negatively influencing the uniqueness of the LotR trilogy. The main argument I could find to see it would again be that it's made to be seen on a large movie screen.
He created quite a bit of havoc running around on his own in Quantum of Solace. ...
Ah ok, you more had in mind retrieving the stolen list. I was more thinking of in some way protecting the agents themselves.
By the way, I thought that they used a large amount of sensitive data being stolen in the UK was a wonderful plot point (even if I would assume such a list doesn't exist. Hopefully) since for a while about once a month data like that "went missing" in the UK.

I rolled my eyes and took it as an "homage" to old!Bond and didn't make the connection. You obviously have a point.
Severine really felt like she existed in this story purely to be sexed up and killed
While I wouldn't have minded to be proven wrong, right after the casting I always assumed she would only be a "secondary" Bond girl. So this didn't surprise me.
I'm not as upset as you by M's departure, but you make a lot of good points why she deserved a better ending and at least a few more "heroic" moments in the movie.
but the degree to which Silva is credited with having things planned out in advance was super Die Hard-levels of ridiculous at times.
It was just too much. What will also never stop being silly in movies, decoding highly encrypted code in real time under time pressure (visualised in graphics on screen while Q seems to be randomly typing on his keyboard :D).
The lack of gadgetry.Didn't really bother me, especially since it just tends to ( ... )

The trivia page for this movie is pretty outstanding, is it not? Who needs a crew commentary? ;)
While I found many of his scenes compelling, portraying a former top agent as someone with severe mommy isues was the main problem of the movie for me. Sure I can imagine that they are all damaged on some level, and I like that they have started with the Craig re-boot to make things more personal, but this was just a bit too much for me.You know, there has been so much raving over Bardem’s performance and the Silva character, but I have to agree with you. He didn’t quite work for me. In the writers' defense, I'm not sure he was ever described as a "top" agent, M did say he was brilliant, but he can't have been well-regardly too widely in the service, or I can't see how she would ever have gotten away with voluntarily turning him over to the Chinese. That said, one wonders if M wasn't drawn to the ones with Mommy issues; something ( ... )

It is! Though more than once I was wishing for a button that allows me to hide all the mind-boggling, uninteresting statistical stuff, like, this is the first Bond movie that has filmed in countries whose names all consist of more than six consonants. ;)
why really, being as it was personalized, did Q make a point of telling Bond to make sure he returned it?
True! Though I'd also like to mention, like with so many biometrical security measures, they are an invitation to be imitated. Probably more so in movies than in the real world. :)
I look forward to more after screening #2It's been a long time since I wanted to watch a movie a second time at the theatre. The last one I came close was "The Dark Knight". "Skyfall" is now shown here only in the theatre with a screen not much bigger than a TV at home (I exaggerate. A little) so it's not really an option. I guess you'll have to pick me up ( ... )
