Gone to friends-only

Sep 22, 2011 11:17

It took me a while to decide this was necessary, but since my Livejournal/Dreamwidth handle is the same as my current official website and email address (both present on my business card), it seems like a potentially bad idea to publicly discuss some of the things that go through my mind. I'm torn, of course; I want to remain as transparent and ( Read more... )

Mine has been on a "friends only" default since well before F was born.

I totally understand.

I totally get it. I use FB for minor daily complaints, games and the occasional sharing of news stories (which is apparently enough to offend people as it is.

My LJ is where I really let my feelings flow. I do not censor myself since only a handful of people (no actual family) view it.

I was a lot more open on Facebook, even, until I got chewed out for not being the happiest new mother that's never existed. Then I got chewed out for daring to suggest that maybe not everyone can do all the activism at once (so maybe it's okay to start small, because at least it's a start). So now I try to keep my complaints purely on the physical level, and mostly act like my life is the most perfect thing you've ever seen, and I have no political or social opinions at all. Which is stupid, vapid and stifling.

Both people removed themselves from my life, so in my less-vulnerable moments I'm okay with it. But my in-laws are on Facebook, and ex-coworkers who still work for the company that Scott works for, and...it's just more prudent to stay light and avoid making waves.

I'd love to be added, if you're comfortable with that..

I think I have finally figured out who you are (I may have asked you at some point too, but I can't remember. You have way too many parallels to the person I think you are, so I have an educated guess), so yes. :)

Oh! I'm Kym; we've communicated more often in other realms (though I thought here too.. but perhaps I'm either mistaken, or the connection wasn't clear). I assure you that I don't bring chaos of the detrimental variety to the party..

We've communicated here, but it took me looking through every comment you've posted to say "hey, I think that's the Kym I know!" - although I think I guessed it at some point some time ago, I just didn't solidify the guess until, well, now. Sometimes I am dense. And uh, having gone back on coffee, I'm now feeling the lack every morning.

Hi again, this time online. I wondered if it was OK for me to follow/read your journal.

Showing myself a little more, here's what I wrote about my day at Faerieworlds, and here are a few photos I got of you and elionwyr.

It was nice to meet you. I hope you had a manageable trip home.

Heya! I really appreciate you writing about it - I was feeling decidedly invisible after the weekend, so it was awesome to see those pictures and read what you wrote. Thank you for that.

At the moment I don't feel I know you well enough to add you back, and I apologize for that - I've gotten increasingly personal with this journal, and while I like to live out loud to some extent, there are places where I would rather stay a little more private. I've sent you a Facebook request, though, if that's okay?

No need to apologize; I understand. And thank you for the Facebook invite.

All the best...
