Chapter 3:
The next day, Kazuya arrived at the hospital 2 hours early for her scheduled operation. She was indeed energized and happy. And it was the first time that her co-workers saw her like that.
She still couldn’t get over from what happened the night before that. She saw a guy named “Jin”. He was the most handsome guy she ever saw. She knew she had already fallen for that guy. She knew that she has to see him again.
8:34 AM, Kazuya’s mitral valve operation she’ll be doing to her patient, Takizawa, started.
She acted calm and cool on the outside but she felt jumpy on the inside. Jin knows this. He could hear what she was thinking after all she was there to look after her.
Throughout the operation, she was singing the song “Anniversary” in her thought and Jin was listening to it. In the middle of the song, Kazuya stopped singing and said “No dying now, Takizawa-kun, not until you give me Jin’s number.”
Jin was surprised yet happy to hear that from her. He felt something he can’t explain through words but it was overwhelming. And from what he heard he is reassured that Kazuya is definitely in love with an him.
--
After a long day of work, Kazuya went directly home and took a warm bath. She directly dove in her bathtub with a bottle of beer in hand.
“Those eyes… The way he looked at me…. Looked right down into me…” She thought in a sensual way.
Jin was sitting in front of the open bath room door listening to what she was thinking. It made him feel worried in some way and he wasn’t quite sure why.
After an hour of warm comfy bath, Kazuya stood in front of the bathroom mirror and started to stroke her hair in a sensual way and without her knowing, Jin was hugging her from behind.
How he wished he could make her feel his warmth, his breath, his passion. But he knew all of these are impossible since he’s not a mortal like her.
--
3:14 AM , after sleeping for a few hours, she woke up 2 hours earlier than the time she was supposed to wake up.
“Too early…” She thought as she took a glass of water from her side table and drank it.
She’d place the glass on the table and saw a book she never remembered buying, borrowing not even placing it on the said table. She took the book and read the title “A Movable Feast by Ernest Hemingway”
She thought twice if she would read it or not.
“oh.. What the heck..” She said in a small voice.
She took her reading glasses, sat properly on bed and start reading the book. She was totally engrossed in reading the book. She loved that book in fact, she finished reading the whole book for only a few hours.
--
In the hospital, she went out looking for Ueda. She presumed that Ueda brought the book to her house for her to read it.
She found him on the hospital roof top throwing few punches in the air. She walked confidently straight to him, gave him a hug and said “I knew you would be here.”
“My kidney transplant earlier tanked.” He said in disappointment.
“Are you alright?”
“Hai.”
She felt sorry for the guy. But that’s not what she was there for. She was there to return the book to him.
“I think you should return this.” She said handing out the book.
Ueda took the book and looked at it. He didn’t know the book. It was the first time he saw the book. “Why is she giving this to me?” He thought
“What are you talking about? I didn’t give you this book.” He told her.
Kazuya looked confused. It must be him, it must be Ueda who left the book on her side table no else.
“You didn’t?” She wondered
“Where’d you get it?” Ueda Asked.
She didn’t give answer. She just looked at him confused. “I wonder who gave me this book…” She thought.
--
That afternoon, Kazuya went to the central library to return the said book. She also wants to know who left a good and inspiring book on her table.
“Hi… I’m a physician and I think a patient left that in my office. Is there any way you can tell me who checked it out?” She lied and asked the librarian.
“I can’t tell you who… But I can tell you when.” The bald librarian replied.
“Okay then…”
“Just give me 5 minutes.”
She left the front desk and went directly to a shelf where all the books of Ernest Hemingway were placed.
Unknown to her and to all of us, the central library is the favorite hang-out place of all angels. And yes, Jin was there. He saw her pass him as she went to a shelf. He wasn’t sure why he was there but he followed her.
She stopped, looked at the shelf and took out one of Hemingway’s book when also of a sudden she heard a voice saying “Hello, Kazuya.”
She turned to look at the person who called her and to her surprise, it was Jin.
“It’s nice to see you again” he added.
“It’s weird to see you again.” She replied with a huge smile on her face.
“Weird is nice.”
His answer made her giggle and he liked that.
“So… You like Hemingway?” He asked.
“Yeah…Yeah… I’m starting to..” She answered shyly
He smiled at her and she smiled back. Her heart kept on beating fast as if she was running in a marathon.
“Hemingway never forgets to describe how things taste… I like that…” He reacted on the book Kazuya was holding.
He moves closer to her that made her step few steps backward. As she does, she asked him “Do you come here often?”
“I live here.” He replied.
Kazuya thought he was kidding and giggled a little.
“What do you do?” She questioned him.
“Read.” He answered with confidence.
“No… I mean… your job…”
“Oh.. I’m a messenger.”
“What kind of messenger? Like a bike messenger?”
“No, I’m a messenger of God.”
“You’ve got a message for me?”
“I already gave it to you.”
“Did you use my phone? I usually don’t get my messages unless you beep me.”
“You’ve been definitely been beeped.”
They both laughed softly taking note of each other’s smile and laughter.
“How is Takizawa-kun?” Jin asked.
“He’s good… The operation went really well.” She replied
“It was a good day.”
“Yes, it was… Yeah… I didn’t kill anybody to day.” She said with a smile.
“You’re a good doctor.” He complimented her.
“How do you know?”
“I have a feeling.”
“Ah… That’s pretty flimsy evidence.”
“Close your eyes.”
Her eyes opened up widely. “Is he going to kiss me?” She thought.
“Why?” She questioned him.
“It’s just for a moment.” He reassured her.
Kazuya trusted his words and followed what she was instructed to do. She took a deep breath and slowly closed her eyes. Jin took her hand, and drew a line on her palm using his index finger and asked “What am I doing?”
“You’re touching me.” She answered.
“Touch? How did you know?” He asked back.
“Because I feel it.”
“You should trust that… You don’t trust that enough.”
After he said those words, he noticed that all of the angels there were looking at them in a bad way. They need to go somewhere else, anywhere but there.
“Let’s go somewhere.” He suggested.
“where do you want to go?” She asked.
“Anywhere.”
“Ok then… What do you want to do?”
“Anything…”
They looked at each other’s eyes for a few more minutes and they fled off the library. As they leave, all the angels in the building looked at them fled off somewhere. Yamapi also saw this. He shook his head and thought “this is bad…”
