It's always sad to go back home and feel disappointment. Hopefully, it was just a fluke, and you just happened to be a jerk magnet when it came to locals.

People who say "there is no NZ above the Bombay Hills" disgust me. I am born and bred in West Auckland and lived there for the first 18 years of my life, regularly travelling around the rest of the North Island to the point that I'm confident I've been to 95-99% of the towns above Nelson. Where is the unity? As an Aucklander, I love the entire country. Why do non-Aucklanders have to say we're rude and not part of "their country"? I think it's horrible ( ... )

In Minnesota, it's the same. People from outside the Minneapolis and St. Paul usually talk about their urban neighbors like they're ignorant jerks without morals or warm countenances. I think that is pretty much bullshit, because I've found it more difficult to have meaningful conversation with people in the boondocks than when I lived in the big city. You're going to encounter jerks everywhere, that's just the way it is, but labeling an entire city or metropolitan area as one thing is kind of overgeneralizing. New Zealanders are New Zealanders, Minnesotans are Minnesotans, etc. Each part of the geographic whole has its own quirks, but the whole is still united by its parts and the parts aren't that different, because they are still governed and influenced by many of the same things ( ... )

I don't mind rivalry at all. It's the generalising in a negative way which gets to me.

Wooo!! The icky couples? :P

I might mention that, but I'd like this one to be a happy post. Let's face it, I haven't made one of them in a while.

It wasn't that the couples themselves were icky; I'm just generally in an icky state of mind about couples. The couples were very cute. Deb and I got chatting to this gorgeous English bloke while waiting for the train...and he had his arms wrapped around his girlfriend from the back, and he kept giving her kisses and nuzzling her neck and stuff. They looked gorgeous together, and it made me quite seriously ache, y'know?

Argh...I just saw my favourite band live, and I was high as a freaking kite...and it took a little thing like that to make me crash again. *Napolean Dynamite voice* Gosh...

I've decided I hate being a girl.

To anyone who is part of a couple, I'm sorry. I'm a dick, so feel free to ignore.

Andre, sorry to be spamming your mailbox with all my relationship angst. From now on, I'll keep it in my own LJ.

Did they play "One Tree Hill"?

How many times have you been to Auckland? That is kind of a bummer you didn't feel at home. Sometimes I feel that way when I go to Minneapolis, especially with the suburban sprawl.

Did they play "One Tree Hill"?

Yes. :) It was freaking beautiful. I almost melted on the spot.

Aw, and they played Bad as well. Yoss...

Just a gorgeous night all round, really.

Wow. I should download the bootleg or something. That's my favorite U2 song, and it's great that they resurrected it for Auckland. Isn't it their first time down under since ZooTV? I'm sure it was a blast. Did you go to both shows?

And "Bad," that just settles the deal. When they played "Out of Control" and then closed with "Bad/40" during the second Boston show...for me, that was the biggest highlight of 2005.

Was this your first?

It's a gorgeous song, isn't it? Such beautiful, beautiful lyrics. I went to the second show (wasn't able to get tickets in time for the first) and OTH was the closing number. By the time the second encore rolled around, I'd almost given up on hearing it at all...but then we hear the opening chords, and the crowd just howled. I think I screamed the loudest though. :P

Aw, and according to Bono, some of Greg Carroll's family were in the audience. So, that made it all the more special. :)

And "Bad," that just settles the deal.

I freaking love Bad. I was praying with every inch of me that they would play either Bad or All I Want Is You...and I still can't believe they played it even now! AND they ended it with a snippet of 40 as well! Perfect. :)

Isn't it their first time down under since ZooTV?

First time in NZ, yeah. 13 years and 8 months since their last visit. I believe Popmart came to Australia, but that was it. Elevation didn't come down under at all.

Was this your first?

Yup. :) And I'm already hanging out for the next tour!
