I'm almost positive that the last one is a snippet of the Minstrel Boy (an Irish traditional song) but Bono completely butchers the lyrics; in the first sample for #3 though he definitely sings "the minstrel boy to the war has gone" (which is the opening line). I'm really bothered by #2 also because I feel like I ought to recognize it, but I can't quite place it.

Wow, you are good! All of the four samples that I have for #3 seem to have the common decipherable lyric of "war has gone". For some reason, I had the feeling it was an Irish traditional song. The continued mumbling is bothering me, but I just assume it's Bono rambling on to the tune without having a clue what the actual words are.

I keep trying to Google #2 but I must not be understanding Bono correctly as my results are abysmal. It's driving me nuts.

In #2 it sounded like he was saying "Hollywood shines like a star" (or something like that) but there weren't any hits on Google. I suspect he was just making words up, which is also what I think he was doing for #3...

Bono: The minstrel boy to the war is gone.. *wait, I don't know the rest of the lyrics!* mumble mumble mumble

Yes, that's exactly what I think he's singing too. I think at a couple of other points, he sings "love to me" and "she will be". None of it turns up anything decent on Google, though. Oh, this is a pain because I am definitely familiar with whatever he's butchering.

And hahaha, yeah, I agree with your assessment. There's a classic Bad from late on the JT Tour. He starts singing a verse he'd already done and then suddenly he stops and you can tell this is going throug his mind: *shit, I just sung that, uhhh ... sing something that sounds anthemic* Ahhhh aaaaahhhh yaahoooooOOOO SOOOUUUUULLLLL!
