I must say, there's something about the death penalty that seriously and deeply bothers me within my conscience. I cannot possibly view it as an act of a civilised people or as a means of serving justice. And Tookie Roberts wasn't going anywhere. He was going to be imprisioned for life in any case.

His name was Williams, not Roberts.

I wasn't necessarily discussing him, though it's true his execution brought up the topic of capital punishment in a more general sense in the first place. With modern prisons, I really see no purpose for execution. No-one's about to go anywhere, and those who are unrepetent can eke out a pathetic, lonely existence while those who do reform should be given the chance to give back to the community.

As much as the vengeful side of me wants to agree, I don't. Chuck them in jail and let their existence be forgotten.

I just cannot justify the possibility of mistakenly executing someone, and the emotional trauma people must go through before being put to death must be awful. Imagine it's your last hour. No-one should be subjected to that.

It's a beautiful life, oooooh.

And it's sad when humanity decides to end it for someone else.

I love when humanity thinks it can play God.

Except for the part where 'love' is entirely sarcastic.

i agree with you. i don't like the death penalty at all. can't really think of anything else to say about it.

I find the repulsion it inspires inside of me is difficult, if not impossible, to adequately express in words.

me too. i really don't know how to word it other than to say something as eloquent as "it sucks."

I look for words such as "despicable" and "barbaric" and they don't quite pinpoint the discomfort and queasiness I feel inside.
