For a Tuesday today was actually good. The weather was awesome, the bank got me my new debit card far quicker than I thought they would, and I got a refund for the money that was fraudulently removed from my account. I can pay rent!

In the books they talk about panthers being native but very very rare, in Louisiana.
A quick google search suggests that they are in fact thought to be extinct in the region, and were related to cougars. They wouldn't be the black panthers native to Asia etc (though Latin America apparently has black panthers), more probably like Florida panthers which live in the swamps of Florida.

Also, as far as TrueBlood is concerned I think that mention was a bit of foreshadowing... but I could be misreading it.

Yeah, I think it was foreshadowing. I know enough about future events in book canon to think it was hinting at something.
