Uh oh, I'm at work, so I'd better not click the link.
I was once in Japan shopping in an upscale store (okay, window shopping because I couldn't afford anything there)and they were playing rap music that was all about men beating up bitches who deserved it, and had the F-bomb at least once per line. I found myself getting angry and stressed out, and I had to leave. I wondered if the women working behind the counter could understand the lyrics-- I didn't think so because the rap was very fast and full of slang.
But I also used to see conservative-looking middle aged women carrying shopping bags that were artfully printed with "F--- me!" or variations. I'm sure they had no idea. That was a long time ago, though.
It's actually very sad and upsetting that things like that are tolerated, not to mention seen as "normal", or even "popular".
In the bookstore where I work, I recently discovered a new book called "Porn Chic". It talks about the "pornofication" of our society and how it's psychologically affecting us, especially teenagers. This is actually a very important and serious subject.
I'm skinny too. Naturally skinny due to genetics, msde worse by health problems. I wish I wasn't so skinny, but I literally can't put on weight and it's always been hurtful having people make fun of me or make derogatory remarks just because I'm thin. People need to understand that being skinny is not always a matter of choice, any more than being short is. *hugs*
(This is one of those times I'm glad I don't listen to pop music.)
Same here! I mean nobody goes up to an obese person and says "hey you're fat". I wish people would just accept the fact that some people are skinny no matter what they eat! >.<
The whole pop culture sucks. Well, at least parts of it. And the sad thing is that I feel like it's MY culture and MY generation so maybe that's why it affects me so much :/
