Fuck the skinny bitches?!

Yesterday I downloaded a song without really paying attention to the lyrics. That was a mistake. Today I finally did and instantly deleted the song.

[And here's why... (Warning: Swear words and ranting ahead!)]
The song is called "All about that bass" by Meghan Trainor. It sounds cute and nice and I really liked the video too - mainly because the girls in the video weren't those typical half-naked, pouting beauty queens with lots of make-up. And they actually looked like they were having fun.

But then THAT line came up. "Fuck the skinny bitches". Apparently it's a song about "body positivity". Now, as I said, I appreciate the fact that the girls aren't supermodels and feel comfortable with their bodies nevertheless. I'm all for body positivity. But what the hell is positive about shaming skinny people?

The sad thing is that this skinny-shaming is very popular at the moment. I'm naturally skinny, I can't help it, and I've been facing hate and inappropriate comments my whole life. Not to mention the self-doubt, sometimes even bordering on self-hate. Luckily, I managed to move past that. Most of the time, I feel comfortable being me. But that doesn't mean that skinny-shaming won't hurt me. Why do people think it's not okay to call someone fat, but it's okay to say things like "Wow, you're really skinny! Just eat a sandwich or something!" or "Men like REAL women, not those skeletons! Bones are for dogs!"

And Meghan Trainor is by far not the only singer who sings "fuck the skinny bitches". Nikki Minaj sings it in "Anaconda", of course, but lots of artists do, too. There are more and more photo shoots with fuller women, "real women" as they call them, to show what "real beauty" looks like. And everyone says it's about "body positivity". Because apparently, skinny bodies aren't real, beautiful bodies, and skinny people aren't real people with real feelings.

I kinda understand where all this skinny-shaming is coming from. With the hipster-subculture growing more and more popular throughout the past years, being very skinny has become even more popular than before. (By the way, I'm not a hipster, but I really liked - and still like - seeing so many skinny beautiful people that I can identify with. Finally MY figure has become the ideal! Finally it's widely known that you don't have to be curvy to be beautiful!)
Of course, now that the hipster-trend is getting a little old and out of stlye, there's an anti-movement arising. And this movement is called "Fuck the skinny bitches".

Of course it's not okay to insult and look down on people for being overweight or not having a thigh-gap. But it's also not okay to shame people for being skinny and HAVING a thigh gap! Why is it so hard for people to feel good about themselves without putting down others? Shouldn't everyone be accepted just the way they are, as long as they are living a healthy lifestyle?

So remember, children, never hurt others just to make yourself feel better! (It's a basic kindergarten rule, isn't it? Maybe Meghan, Nikki and their friends should got to kindergarten again.)
And to everyone who is facing body-shaming - just ignore them. I know it's hard, but try to ignore them. I know I'm not a perfect example, I'm a very sensitive person so I was feeling miserable all afternoon just because of a crappy pop song, but then I went jogging and got over it.

Never forget: YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL! :)

*hugs* *wipes tear from eye* *now that was touching, wasn't it?*

(Actually I wanted to use my precious time for something else, but whatever. I felt like this was necessary to write down. Not just for me, but for every single one of you. And if it helps just one person and makes the world a little better, I'm happy. *sigh*)
