Woman I'd take into a fight: Kara Thrace
Here is what I know about people in my corner of fandom: they never get tired of posts about Kara Thrace. Especially if there are pictures. Coincidentally, right now I'm doing a 'favorite fictional female character' meme on my LJ, so this all works together quite nicely.
Sorry for repeating some information I've mentioned on my own LJ before.
Our first glimpse of Kara Thrace comes as she's jogging through the hallways of Galactica.
It's the first of many moments when Kara is wearing her favorite workout gear. Frankly it's an iconic look: Kara Thrace in tanks and/or sports bra plus cutoff exercise shorts, hitting and kicking her boxing gear in lieu of kicking someone else.
Except when she actually does hit or kick someone else. That happens a lot too. In fact, it happens just a bit later in the mini-series. After exchanging some personal insults during a card game, she gets into a brawl with her XO.
Getting into fights just for the fun of it / just to annoy someone / just because you can doesn't actually make for a good ally. Kara does better than that a lot of the time, though. Given a purpose, she's indomitable.
Tell Kara Thrace that we need an artifact back on a nuclear wasteland planet that's occupied by cylons? She'll steal a ship to fly there, find it...
...and survive a knock-down, drag-out fight with a 'woman' who was built to be stronger than human in order to get that artifact.
When she's in trouble, instead of waiting to be rescued, Kara saves her own life. And the lives of those she loves.
Even when she's stuck in a no-win situation, she doesn't give up. This makes her a formidable opponent.
She's handy with all kinds of tools, too.
Not only is Kara all of those things, she's also a messenger brought back to lead her people to their safe haven. So, y'know, there's that. Deity is clearly on her side, which is a persuasive reason to want her on mine.
Her character is the reason I kept watching the show after seeing just one episode near the end of season one. I went and bought the DVD's for the mini-series and season one just based on what I liked about her. (This is NOT normal procedure for me.) In other words, she's just my favorite, period, and it's a bonus that I'd absolutely want her on my side in a fight.
