Gilda Dent wasn't opposed to meeting new people. True, she didn't go out of her way to do so, but when put in the situation, she was always polite. She still preferred when she wasn't doing it alone

Audrey arrived a few minutes late, and straight from a meeting. She hoped the other women would understand, although knowing who their husbands were made her think they would. The hostess led her out to the table and she smiled when she saw Gilda Dent, all the while forming opinions and filing them away.
"Hi," Audrey said, glad that she had at least beat Barbara there. "Audrey Westfield."
Gilda stood and extended her hand. "Hello. Gilda Dent. Nice to meet you."
As she took her seat, she said, "I'm afraid it's just us. Jimmy isn't feeling well, so Barbara called to say she couldn't make it." She smiled all the same, looking at Audrey, taking in her first impression.
