Gilda Dent wasn't opposed to meeting new people. True, she didn't go out of her way to do so, but when put in the situation, she was always polite. She still preferred when she wasn't doing it alone ( Read more... )

Audrey arrived a few minutes late, and straight from a meeting. She hoped the other women would understand, although knowing who their husbands were made her think they would. The hostess led her out to the table and she smiled when she saw Gilda Dent, all the while forming opinions and filing them away.

"Hi," Audrey said, glad that she had at least beat Barbara there. "Audrey Westfield."

Gilda stood and extended her hand. "Hello. Gilda Dent. Nice to meet you."

As she took her seat, she said, "I'm afraid it's just us. Jimmy isn't feeling well, so Barbara called to say she couldn't make it." She smiled all the same, looking at Audrey, taking in her first impression.

Audrey shook Gilda's hand and then sat down.

"Oh, no," she said, when Gilda mentioned Jimmy. "I hope he's all right."

Gilda nodded. "So do I. Barbara seems to think it's just a little bug." She smiled a bit more. "It's nice to finally meet you."

Audrey selected what she wanted to order and closed her menu. "So...how long have you known Harvey?"

Gilda closed hers fairly quickly. She was familiar with the menu. She smiled a little more. "About six and a half years."
