gaining altitude

Bought a new bed. It was on sale at The Bay, so we saved about $2000. The thing is like a foot higher than the old one (including the new box spring). We literally had to to buy a stepladder so mvt could get on the bed (she only has to use the first step). She says it's very comfortable and she's very happy. She takes credit for "bullying" me into ( Read more... )

When we bought this house dragonet2 July 17 2008, 04:26:37 UTC
we decided to ditch the waterbeds. Between the fact we'd been fighting leaks for a couple of years and that the bedrooms were on the second floor in this house, we broke down, went to our local, (at the time) large furniture seller and got pillow-top mattresses, which have served us very well ( ... )

I would have been creeped out by the John Madden cut-out talking to me.

Similar problem with my new bed. Pet steps may be something to invest in, to make the trip up less traumatic.

Bastet is capable of hopping onto the bed, though when she gets older (she's ten), she'll be able to use the stepladder that Merle uses now.

She does not like change, loud noises, or travel. I think if we had consulted her on the choice, she would have been immediately okay with it. Since she doesn't like to travel, this would have required us to bring all the mattresses to the house for her to choose from. And we would have had to magically put the bed in place without making any noise or disturbing anything. That would have been fine with her.

Fortunately we have a sweet-natured pet who does stay miffed for more than an hour, and since she is all about control of her territory and everything in it, she had to come to terms with ruling the bed. When she eventually allowed herself to discover it was actually comfortable, she stretched out on it last night and started purring. She was curled up next to me when I woke up this morning.

My bed is very tall and I need steps to get into it. Seriously, the mattress top is at my waist level. One cat has always climbed the back of the headboard as his (bad) oreferred way to get into my bed, and the other likes the steps very well.

It actually is waist-high for me, and of course Merle is shorter than I am.

The cat seems to have no trouble getting up. Jumping down seems to make her nervous. We're going to have to clearly explain that the stepladder works both up and down.
