Bought a new bed. It was on sale at The Bay, so we saved about $2000. The thing is like a foot higher than the old one (including the new box spring). We literally had to to buy a stepladder so mvt could get on the bed (she only has to use the first step). She says it's very comfortable and she's very happy. we decided to ditch the waterbeds. Between the fact we'd been fighting leaks for a couple of years and that the bedrooms were on the second floor in this house, we broke down, went to our local, (at the time) large furniture seller and got pillow-top mattresses, which have served us very well.

When we told the sales dude that we were moving from waterbeds, that is what he pointed us to. We also looked at the "Tempur-pedic" mattresses, which we all decided just felt creepy (plus I'm always too warm and that surface does not allow any kind of skin breathing on the side in the mattress.

Dr. P and Roh got treated to me have a small fright and screaming, they had a John Madden cut-out stand-up that actually TALKED, it had a motion sensor in it. a) I hate human shaped cardboard cutouts with a passion, they creep me out. and b) then it spoke to me. I could hear the telling the sales person that 'that must be Paula and she must have had a fright at something stupid."

They did allow that it was fairly creepy when it spoke to them.

But the tallness of the mattresses was distressing for our elderly cats, so Roh and I both put stuff at the foot of the beds to allow a step-up approach. (at least Melisande started sleeping with me, she apparently got flipped off one of the waterbeds and decided they were pure EEEViL.)

I would have been creeped out by the John Madden cut-out talking to me.
