I did not know we did that. :| I'm starting to not like living in our country anymore. I think the bipartisan political system is killing us…it seems like every major issue in our country hasn't been resolved because both parties are trying everything they can to make sure the other side doesn't win, without even considering what they *really* think is right or wrong.
I don't know if that made sense or not. To keep it short: I agree. I was expecting change for the better, not change for the worse.
I know exactly what you mean. The dual party system screws us over so much. As you said, the parties' respective agendas take precedence over what is right and what is best for the districts which individual officials were charged with representing. The bipartisan system can only effectively exist when the reps can work for the people and not who subsidizes their campaign funds.
The world would be much better if there was no such thing as money. >.>
Ah, but they justify it by saying there is an actual, imminent threat. Isn't that why we went into Iraq? Some threat. Sometimes I think WE are the bigger threat. Frankly, this one is an internal matter and I don't see why we - or anyone else - needs to be there sticking their noses into a rebellion. But I guess that is the nature of world politics for centuries: support the side you want to win, for your own purposes, not theirs. At least he's backing off. I think. Who knows.
Hahaha, they are stupid bastards if they think anyone's going to buy that there was a true imminent threat. It's a CIVIL WAR. ACROSS THE WORLD! How the hell is it a)any of our business or b)likely to remotely affect us?
Weeeell we do have an invested interest in it. We helped Gaddafi stay in power for YEARS because his regime provided us with cheap oil. We're feeling embarrassed about that, to be sure, but only because people know about it. *I* sure didn't know before the revolts started.
The people who started the rebellion? You *bet* they know, and they probably don't feel to kindly towards us right now. The solution -- send help in the form of missiles. It's a two-pronged message: gratitude on the one hand, intimidation on the other.
So to the government? It's our business because of it's a PR nightmare, and it's likely to make the price of oil go up. Guess which is really more important -- we're involved because we don't want to lose money.
I knowwwwwwwwww, and I completely agree. I'd rather ride a bicycle to work because I can't afford to put gas in my car anymore than to think about people hiding under their beds when they hear bombs go off because Big Brother doesn't like how they go about their own internal affairs.
I'm like you. I don't watch the news unless something major is happening. Reason 1: hearing the news just infuriates me and I go into misanthropy mode. Reason 2: most of the Indian news channels sensationalises "news" which aren't really news. >.<
But I came across this news in Yahoo last night and I was going WTF? I was really surprised as to why US was poking its nose into this, but Bella's comment has enlightened me. It doesn't piss me off any less, though.
Actually, it's events like these that keep me from paying attention to current events. I figure if I can bury my head in the sand enough, I can pretend like the rudderless Earth Ship isn't being captained by bigots, pirates, thieves, and jackals. I suppose I always know what's going on but I choose to look the other way due to my innate lack of ability to do anything about it. It simply bothers me that the world is like it is and it doesn't have to be.
It is my understanding that we are doing this as part of a larger effort, not like "oh, well, let's go bomb them." If you have treaties that say you will do X if the vote goes X then you sort of have to go with that. Which is not to say that we had no influence on how the vote went - just that let's be upset about the particular thing that went wrong
( ... )
I know they cited the reason as 'lending America's unique resources to allies', but really, it's not a good excuse. It's hard to look at the situation and not want to scream at them, "Is the oil really that important?!"
I dislike the dual-party system because it's just a giant standoff, and nothing gets done. Look at how long it took them to pass the damned 9/11 RESPONDER BILL! Of all the stupid, jumped up posturing they could've done, they choose to dick around with health care for freaking HEROES WHO ARE DYING/HAVE DIED to save others from the destruction of a terror attack. This is the sort of sub-human garbage that makes me want to live in a remote place with no one a-freaking-round. All most of them do is serve their party's agendas and spit in the face of people who elected them to do right by them. For that, they simply cannot be forgiven.
God, I hate politics. And politicians. And war. All of this can just go to hell.
