i went to a bar tonight that i don't normally frequent, but i know that a boyfriend of a friend works there. so i hang out with him for a bit but then at the end of the night, as i'm leaving, something odd happens. i stood up and said goodbye to him and started to walk out, when i hear another guy at the bar say to the bartender, "what's her name ( Read more... )

i'd imagine the guy is an asshole. #1 for sure. boyfriends of friends generally watch out for their girlfriends friends in situations like that even if they don't know you that well. i guess i learnt from observation/past experiences.

when i first met this guy, i thought he was kinda crazy and we didn't get along that well. but that was a few years ago, and now i realize it's my friend that's kind of crazy and he's actually pretty nice. so yeah, it could be he was just looking out for me... you're probably right.

i'd imagine if it were #2 it'd be more "you don't want to know" rather than "don't you dare."

hmm, could be. but i was still in the bar when he started talking, so it also could be that he did say that after i left.

I'm not really sure why I think this, but if he thought you were a bitch I think he would have told the other guy your name. Like, "Oh, that's Ashlee... eyes off... stay away." The fact that he didn't tell the other guy your name makes me think he was looking out for you. If he doesn't have a name he can't come up to you at a different bar some day and act like he knows who you are.

But I might just be reading too much into things...

#1. "eyes off" is the appropriate statement to follow "don't worry about that" for situation #1. "don't bother" is the appropriate statement to follow for situation #2. and chances are, if it were #2, you'd be hearing from the guy shortly, because most guys are up for the challenge of "taming" a bitch. another thing about guys is that they tend to be protective of women they think worth protecting. guys show this differently. so if you are a friend of his girlfriend, then you qualify.

another intriguing analysis. i think you're probably right... i think he would've said something nastier after "don't bother" because that makes the most sense.
