I would have answered this, but the first question did not have an accurate answer for me. I don't think it's a bad thing if someone smokes a bowl two times in one day or smokes a cigarette two times in one day. Or even if they have two drinks on two separate occasions in one day.

Furthermore, it's not the use that is the issue so much as the consequences of the use. Do they have a steady job? Do they get stupid/violent/lazy when using their drug? Do they get nasty when they can't have their drug? These issues are far more important than the frequency of use, or even the substance in question.

is it your opinion, then, that the drug use doesn't matter as long as they can "handle" it? for example.. as long as they do what they're supposed to do in life and don't act crazy, it's okay if they smoke a bowl a few times a day or do some lines of coke every night?

Drug use is only a problem when it becomes a hindrance to one's obligations. For example, if one loses a job because they are caught being under the influence at work, or if they spend all their money and go broke paying for their habit, or if they become hurtful towards their loved ones because of drug-induced behavior.

There are a number of vices which could prove self-destructive if not managed correctly. It's possible that something as benign as masturbation could be a self-destructive vice if one is always late to work because they had to get off before leaving the house.

The definition of a disorder hinges on the concept of reduced functionality. If one functions just fine, there isn't really a problem.

that's essentially my view on drug use as well, but i'm aware that people disagree because they believe that some drugs inherently can't be managed (ie, crack, heroin). what do you think of that?

By the way, does the name "Stigmatophile" imply that you are a lover of stigmata? I can't figure out the meaning of this well-invented word right now.

I think all of the above comments had some good input regarding the poll. I couldn't do the poll myself because of the way it was worded. The first question was impossible to answer because it does not distinguish which drug the poll responder is referring to. The second question is also impossible because I cannot imagine some of the choices like crack and heroin being used in moderation by anyone. I thought roses_rejoice had the best comment regarding the third poll question. Anyone who hangs around with drug users (heavy drug users or addicts), even if they are OK themselves, is likely to have a friend or two that is going to be bad news for you.

I'd be happy to elaborate more on my views verbally. To put everything in print would result in pages and pages. Feel free to call me.

When I voted that no drugs are acceptable in moderation, I think that moderation is too subjective a term. And, honestly, I'd prefer someone who wasn't moderately using any drug. To me, a minimal use of drugs is fine. And minimal use changes dependent on the drug in question.

so a minimal use of drugs that aren't super addictive is probably okay?
