This plot idea has been on my mind for almost a week now and I don't know where it came from; I don't recall ever reading an Avenger story like it. Not sure this is quite what you're looking for, but Routine has Steve developing a very severe case of OCD that makes him think he's going insane.

Sorry it took me so long to thank you for this interesting tale. My apartment complex changed networks without telling anyone and the new network is still spotty.
