Steve/Tony, Age Gap anonymous June 10 2012, 07:04:00 UTC
So according to which canon you use, Steve was born in either 1918 or 1920, making him either 24 or 26. Robert Downey Jr. is 47, and if we use him as a guide Tony is at least 40, probably older. Most fic treats them as equals, with the biggest obstacle being Tony's fanboysihness, but I would love to see something that explored the fact that there is easily a 20 year age gap between the two of them. Even though Steve has more in common with Tony's father than say, Darcy, emotionally speaking there is a world of difference between 25 and 45, and I would just about die if someone did something with that.

Oooh, interesting! I don't think Tony's as old as RDJ -- in "Iron Man" I can't see him being older than late thirties at the most, so I suppose he'd be 40-ish now, but still ~15 years is a pretty big age gap.

35 in the novelization of the first Iron Man film!

...yes, I read that. Don't you judge me.

Comic book ages are... yeah. Emma Frost is 29. The chick who was originally Prof X's contemporary is locked in at age 29. I don't even.

A) Novelization of IM is interesting but not movie canon. Movie Tony in born in May 1970. So 42 in the Avengers.

B) Emma Frost is not "originally Prof X's contemporary" in any canon but XMFC. Yeah. She's Jean Grey and Scott Summer's contemporary and Scott's current wife.

She wasn't the same age as him, but was more meant to be a counterpart of Prof X. What with the competing schools for a while there. It was more a comment on the ridiculous nature of ages in the Marvel universe than attempt to start a debate.

Like how Jubilee has been stated to be younger than the newest cast of students with the X-Men.

Of course. :) Though Emma was always supposed to be young and sexy~ evil headmistress as opposed to old bald (arguably) good headmaster. So I just think contemporary is not really the correct word here, nor is it a revelant example when it comes to ridiculousness of comic-ages. Now Magneto and Charles, they most definitely are with their spry 80-90 year old bodies. ;)

Oh, is she? Or is that a reference to her current unaging nature ans static age as a vampire? (sorry, haven't been following with the latest! Where was this? *curious*)

If only, oh my god. No, apparently Pixie is now older than her.

Jubilee is 17, according to Marvel: http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lfmooaTmcx1qcwvtdo1_500.jpg

And Pixie is at least 18. There was some comment about her being legal to drink in Canada.

(possibly not quite what you were looking for, OP - it's not quite what I was intending, anyway, but it kind of got away from me, so here you go)

Tony hums AC/DC in the shower and has an encyclopedic knowledge of his own musical history, starting from the seventies and working his way up. He can remember a time before the internet, or at least before it became a household thing, but he can't remember when music wasn't at least as loud and brash as he is.

Steve can remember a world pre-internet too, but it's not the same. When Steve sings in the shower, he sings things like Goodnight Sweetheart and Nat King Cole - he actually met Frank Sinatra, back in the day. For Steve, the past seventy years have passed in one prolonged blink; he has yet to understand the slow grind of time as it progresses, each day like a layer of gloss to hardening clay, rendering it stiff and cracked and, at last, breakable. When Tony looks at him, he doesn't just see someone who has triumphed over physical impossibilities and become strong; he sees a man ( ... )
