Fill: A God in the Pew (1/4) hermione_vader May 16 2012, 02:44:49 UTC
On one particularly sunny morning, Thor decided to pay his friend Steve a visit. He knocked on the door to Steve's quarters and found the good Captain dressed in what the Midgardians called 'a suit and tie.'

"You look quite handsome in that garb, Steve," Thor told him, and indeed, it was very flattering (but little could not flatter Steve's looks). "But why break out your finery so early in the day ( ... )

Wow, I really enjoyed this. It's so refreshing to see such a well-thought out and researched kinkmeme fill. Great work, this was a real treat.

Oh. Wow. Okay, I'm not religious at all, but the way this is written has me a bit misty-eyed. Likely because of Thor praying for Loki, but I guess he prays a bit differently than I would've thought. Cardinal Dolan was fantastic, even though I've never heard of him, and Gabriel and his family were lovely. Also, this is sort of how I imagine I'd be at a Mass, because I was raised Protestant. XD; Still, this was beautiful, and I thank you for writing it.

(Also, I admit to cackling at Gabriel's persistence with Super-Jesus. XD)

Oh Thor, your prayer for Loki hit me right in the feels. And the rest of the fic was just as awesome. Wonderful fill!

Very glad I decided to read this. It was beautiful. You've described the service enough that I didn't feel like an idiot following along, but I also was able to understand it completely. Thor's perspective was the perfect balance to keep this entertaining. The story was perfectly woven and amazing to read. Thanks for sharing.

I love this! This is sensitive and very much in depth with the Catholic faith as I know it, and definitely sweet. The bit with Thor praying for Loki just touched me.

This is probably one of the best fills I have found so far. I really enjoyed the little bits where Thor, as a complete outsider, had trouble with bits of the service. They allow begging? and the cannibalism remarks made me giggle, for that's what it must seem to a stranger of those customs. Steve was spot-on, courteous and patient with his explanations. I really REALLY enjoyed your Cardinal! Swell guy (:
Everything was well timed and written, I'm glad to have been able to read it. Thanks for writing, and thanks for sharing it with the meme!!!!

My Catholic feels and my Avengers feels are about to explode together in happiness and lay down and die. This is so exciting! I loved this story - Cardinal Dolan is absolutely fantastic and one of my favorite Church leaders. I love it!

That was actually disappointing. There was so much potential in this prompt. Thor's reaction to everything was out of character. You gave us a nonchristian's perspective, not a GOD'S perspective.
I guess I'd be less butthurt if it wasn't for the fact that I literally fell on my face trying to read this and walk (100% my fault, I'm an idiot) and now I'm sore and I didn't even get a funny fic out of it.
Your writing is pretty good though. I'm sure it's great for people who like catholicism. I'm just grumpy and I couldn't relate.

Thank you for your honesty. Just wondering: what specifically was out-of-character in this fic for you? I'm asking because I'd like to consider it while writing future fics.

If you're still interested in this prompt, there are two other fills beneath the prompt, though they also feature Catholicism. You're absolutely welcome to share your perspective and give us a fourth fill. I'd be very glad to read it.
