Fill: A God in the Pew (1/4) hermione_vader May 16 2012, 02:44:49 UTC
On one particularly sunny morning, Thor decided to pay his friend Steve a visit. He knocked on the door to Steve's quarters and found the good Captain dressed in what the Midgardians called 'a suit and tie.'

"You look quite handsome in that garb, Steve," Thor told him, and indeed, it was very flattering (but little could not flatter Steve's looks). "But why break out your finery so early in the day ( ... )

Excellent all the way through. You captured Cardinal Dolan perfectly, and Thor's prayer for Loki was beautiful.

I was raised Catholic, went to Catholic schools from the time I was 1 until I graduated in high school, and, though I don't consider myself a Catholic person anymore, this story made me want to go to Mass this Sunday and relive it through Thor's eyes.

I don't know if that makes sense, but reading this kind of gave me another insight on how to approach going to Mass and appreciating it as an outsider. Maybe if I'd had Steve and Thor with me all of those years to keep me interested, I would have enjoyed it more XD

Thank you for this wonderful fic, you wrote it wonderfully.

Wow. Thank you. I'm so glad (and amazed) that this fic affected you that way.

That was wonderful. Thor's prayer was so in-character! I haven't been Catholic for many years but I appreciated this fic so very much. :)

Thank you so much! It's cool that you appreciate it; in all honesty, I think this fic is me making sense of my Catholic upbringing.

Awesome! Thank you so much!

I'm glad Steve's answers sound like Steve---I was worried they sounded very basic. Aw, yeah, the Cardinal! He seems like he'd get behind the whole superhero thing if he existed in the Marvel universe.

No, but as a Catholic, sometimes I find it hard to explain certain things because I know the answer but I don't know how say it without sounding preachy, but you did a fabulous job.

And oh yeah the Cardinal would definitely get behind it... he'd probably be like "yes...." and secret fist pump in the air.

Yeah, that was kind of difficult. I just had to approach it as "If I had never, ever set foot in a church before, what would stand out to me most and what questions would I have? What questions would a Norse god/alien have?" and go from there.

LOL, yes. I like to think he secretly thinks Thor is an angel of some sort, sent in a disguise that would impress modern society, but he can't say that to the congregation because the Vatican probably wouldn't like that. ;)

This is neat. The bit with Thor praying is my favorite. I kind of expected some reference to Odin's sacrifice...although I am not sure if that is Marvel-canon...

I just went with movie-canon, where Odin lost his eye in battle instead of giving it up to gain knowledge, and instead went with Thor's sacrifice against the Destroyer in Puente Antiguo (which was incredibly Christlike).
