When the Hulk drops the latest villain of the week at Tony’s feet like a cat displaying his kill, Tony congratulates him. When he protects Tony from being harmed, Tony thanks him. Even though he can take care of himself, damnit. When he yanks up a handful of flowers and tries to give them to Tony, Tony wonders if there’s more going on here than he knows. When he yanks a display case out of a candy store and presents it to Tony, Tony knows there is.

Or: Bruce refuses to court Tony himself, so the Hulk does it for them.

Tony remembers the depths of his affection for Bruce Banner at weird fucking times, like when the dude’s staring at their villain of the week with an expression that says “This is what I’m being asked to Hulk out for?”. Tony sympathizes. Their villain is a guy who appears to be half-lizard and all-stuck in the 70’s, fashion-wise. No one with scaled skin should wear actual snake-skin pants. And Bruce is Tony’s lab partner/science boyfriend. They’ve discussed this. Or, rather, Tony has told Bruce this and Bruce hasn’t disagreed ( ... )
