PRK was Tuesday. Fiery burning agony in the eyes was Tuesday night. It's not so bad now, but everything it still pretty fuzzy as the epithelium is growing back. ( Read more... )
I'm up for hanging out now, just can't see so clearly, am on crutches, and can't drive due to meds ;) Also, Mandy works early and we're out in Laurel, so late stuff on weeknights is generally no good. Maybe Friday?
LASIK surgery doesn't involve much discomfort and has fairly immediate results, but it has a signficantly higher risk of complications and more frequently requires follow up surgeries. PRK is the method used by the military and has similar end results, but significantly more discomfort and a bit longer for the eyes to heal to get those results.
The leg surgery was on the 4th of October. Definitely a month of upgrades ;)
With LASIK they cut a flap at the front of the cornea and use a laser to modify the cornea, then relpace the flap for it to heal. In PRK they use a brush to scrape away the epitheium (outer layer of skin on the eye) over the cornea and then use a laser to modify the surface of the cornea, then the epithelium grows back.
