I could actually see you with either hooked swords or dual dao swords, but I'm going to vote for Hooked Swords. You said that you'd prefer close-range battle, and the swords also fit a lot of the adjectives you chose--they're sharp, if nothing else! Also, I think the swords are mostly apt for the direct approach, but are more suited to tactics and stealth than any other type of sword.

I can see the Hooked Swords and Jian Sword, but since you'd only have one sword the carry around, I imagine the Jian Sword would be quicker than the former. They're each made for the individual, and it's very much an offensive in-the-fray type weapon. Yet, it's also possible to be stealthy and/or use tactics if the surrounding environment is used correctly.
